2026 Draft Week Chatter Thread...

In all seriousness though - getting Downs feels like when we landed Lamb, just a very obvious gift from above and a likely franchise cornerstone for a decade. After they hired Parker I kept thinking about how he described nickel/slot guys in his system as needing to "cover like a CB, play the run like a LB and blitz like a safety", and I think Downs fit that description to a tee.

One of the biggest issues with the defense last year (due to coaching primarily) is how these idiots just couldn't get lined up all year and would blow assignments left and right, that won't be an issue anymore with Downs.

I'm not over the moon about Lawrence necessarily but it was a very solid pick and you can't complain at all adding two 4's in the process. He could easily be the best speed rusher in the class after Bailey and I don't think you have to worry too much about our pass rush anymore.

I think you could easily make the argument that we're the favorite for the division now because Downs is a big time floor-raiser on defense.

Feh.

I am more interested in how Spaulding missed a lot of high fives.

Still trying to wrap my mind around trading up to get Caleb Downs, and still ending up with a better list of draft picks than when we started. Swapping two late fifths for high and mid fourth round picks seems too good to be true. While getting one of the better pass rushers along the way.

Maybe we need to start having Spaulding sitting at the table all the time.
:unsure

What’s weird is Bain’s fall and why we traded up.

I thought for sure Miami would draft local boy Bain and Downs would drop to 12 after the WR’s and Fano went.

Who was trading up to 11 that forced us to move up? Maybe Baltimore? And how feeble was their trading ammo that pick 12 and two precious 5ths could beat it?

Thankfully Miami had targeted Proctor who was not falling past Detroit so they wanted to capitalize on folks trading up for Downs but couldn’t afford to drop too far.

Some surprise picks pushing players down.

Interested to see where Hill from UT goes. This kid could dial our pass pressure to 11 playing behind Williams and working in tandem with the edges and Overshown.

Blitzing up the middle is a talent all on its own.
