So now he is either slow or has a chronic knee issue. This BS about the knee makes me consider dropping further than him just being a 4.7-4.8 speed guy.

Minor procedure is causing knee issues 5 months later? I don't really buy his bullshit excuse is the honest truth.
That's a 2 to 3 week recovery. Knee swelling 5 months later would absolutely be concerning.
