2026 Cowboys UDFA Thread

Fwiw - meant to post this but forgot - Moore and someone else on the Ticket said yesterday they did like Mafah and that he really was hurt in preseason, it wasn't just a situation where they made that up to stash him because he wasn't ready.

Even you said on the podcast that Mafah might be a fourth or fifth round pick in this draft because it was so weak. (Yes I listened that far... And I agree.)

But yeah, apparently John Park has convinced them that RB is a useless position. I mean they went with Miles Sanders last year. God, that feels like five years ago, not one year.
It might be useless but isn’t that all the more reason to scour UDFA for finds? You can get someone without expensing major resources.

I love the Trigg signing.

When you watch him its almost hard to tell he is a TE and not a WR. Not sure if he can block a lick but I have zero concerns about his receiving and route running ability. He is also a really physical runner after the catch. He just doesn't really look like a TE because he moves and catches like a WR. With big traditional TEs in Ferg and Spann-Ford it feels like Trigg would fit in nicely. And Schoon can go do whatever but I'm ready to move on.

I feel like if there is one thing we do well in UDFA it's get some TEs. Not so sure about other positions. Would have liked to see Lawson at LBer for example but he ended up in Philly. But it looks like we brought in 2 legit UDFA TEs. Spann-Ford was a high priority UDFA TE at one point too.

That is great we like Mafah but so what? Same mediocre room that will show that, especially if Williams does not stay completely healthy. Best start studying next year’s RB class now since we will hunting that hard.
Fully expect to see Blue and Mafah take next steps in 2026 after underachieving in 2025.

Deuce being off the roster will help open up preseason and other reps.

I also was very intrigued by Mafah's potential with both his measurables and production. Blue has the speed but badly needed to build some toughness.

Leupke is also part of the same room, and started to toughen up himself to take on more and more carries. I expect, like, a lot from him in 2026.

My guess is we're going to see a bunch of Malik Davis spelling Williams again next year.

I get that Blue and Mafah looked decent against the Giants last year but it's pretty foolhardy to count on them, and to assume that Williams will stay mostly healthy for a second year in a row.

Especially after riding his ass most of the year because we don't trust the yahoos behind him.

Vaughn did not take reps from anybody. Blue simply did not catch on fast enough. If anything it was Sanders.

Davis is now a year older. I am still in disbelief at the blind faith they have in these guys.

Luepeke is a good point, many of us thought he'd get more touches last year and then he was barely used. Schottenheimer said he needed to get him more involved after the year, so hopefully that actually happens because he's about the only guy I trust to be the lead back if Williams misses time until I see more from Mafah/Blue.

Clearly Blue didn't mature like the coaches wanted to see, but having Vaughn gone certainly helps. Sanders was a definite progress stopper.

I really don't understand what's happening with Leupke. He makes an impact seemingly whenever they feed him, and then they always stop.

Mafah getting hurt threw off his whole season.

Bottom line all three need focused reps, a clear signal the team is counting on them to supplement Williams who I don't think anyone trusts to remain strong through the end of the season and into the playoffs should we make them.

Davis doesn't need a whole lot of reps IMO as we know who/what he is.

Blue has the talent. He has to be given a real chance.

I keep forgetting about Leupke.
