2026 Cowboys Free Agency Thread…

You know what I always wondered, and I'm sure there is some unwritten rule among NFL teams and players. But no one can sign until tomorrow. All these deals supposedly "done" what prevents an NFL team from going up to Dean and saying, I'll do better on that contract? You haven't signed yet because you can't until tomorrow.

Obviously that doesn't happen but it's silly that we pretend like no one actually signs until free agency begins tomorrow.

Right, why not just call Dean and say “let us beat that offer”?

I agree about the BPA. And I agree with pass rusher.

The real challenge of this draft class is that we have 2 premium picks and then nothing until the fourth round. The more picks you have the more you can just draft BPA and law of averages says it will balance out at different positions.

When you have 2 premium picks and that's it. You're only hitting 2 positions with your impact picks. Which is why I really want to trade down. You can have 2 less premium first round picks and get yourself a second and third round pick and it makes BPA a hell of a lot easier.
Unless you trade down to later in the 1st/high second and shoot for multiple guys like Zion Young, Parker if he keeps falling, Cisse, Anthony Hill, Jake Golday, Chris Johnson. Still really good players, just more of them

Because all the interested teams have already done so and landed short.

They would all be aware of the buildup towards and arrival at this deal and each have given it their best shots long before anything got announced to the public.

We're seeing the cake long after it's been baked and decorated.

That's what I mean. The deals didn't get done yesterday. They portray it that way. But I think the deals were long done. The Cowboys didn't "just miss out on Dean" otherwise they could come back today and say hey Dean, will give you an extra mil because we realized all the other LBer options are gone and we are caught with our pants down.

Again, the portrayal vs what is really happening makes me laugh. The 2 day tampering period is a figment of drama the NFL has set up for entertainment purposes but it's not real.

When we traded for Gary we already knew what contracts these free agent DEs were getting and said we would rather have Gary then to try and outbid these deals.

Good thing they're evaluating and discussing the unsigned guys. :rolleyes

Why the fuck haven't you already evaluated and discussed to the hilt on all these guys? What have you been doing the last three months?

I highly doubt they're evaluating if guys guys are fits now. More like discussing the money flying around and if that fit would be worth the price.

So Jane is the only one with connections with the Cowboys? I guess Archer, too.

What about the other guys who have been on the beat for decades?

Yeah like I've said, these guys already had a good idea of how the chips were going to fall yesterday. I'm not buying that Dallas is in some sort of an emergency re-evaluate mode today. More like looking at the guys left and deciding if what those players are now asking is worth the benefit of what they will bring. Or do we wait, see if anyone is cut, see how the draft shakes out and try to trade for some guys later.

As a fan I'm looking at the lists with a sense of urgency. But my guess is most NFL teams knew how yesterday would go well in advance. And so there isn't some sort of panic. It's just kind of sit back and see what the players who are left are willing to drop their price to.

That roster bonus for Queen is interesting. He's due a 2.5 million dollar roster bonus in a few days. There's a decent chance the Steelers don't want to pay that and decide to just cut him.

I wonder what the deal with Chubb is.

Can't say I really know. But it feels like every year you have these vets who have made their money and they kind of sit back for the right situation to fall into place. Chubb doesn't have to worry about having a chance to play in the NFL next year. If he wants to wait until after the draft to sign or right before the season I'm sure there is a team that would be happy to have him.

Wouldn't shock me at all. They are probably holding out hope to get a pick for him and will dump him right before then. And if they are being too greedy about the draft pick that may be why he hasn't been traded yet or why Dallas has hit a "snag."

Worth listening to or just a list of others?

Huh, who?

Like I'm not going to be upset but these are the signings that I'm sort of like, why not just get some good players. 29 year old backup safety. Not much money or anything like that, but why waste money on a guy like this? Can someone else explain it to me? Couple of these guys and you could have had a real legit starter.
