All this Faulk at 12 chatter is precisely why I've been saying they need to be aggressive about moving up to about 8-9.
I like Faulk more than probably anybody here, and would be happy with him at 20, but he shouldn't be the pick at 12 and the fact that he isn't an unreasonable (even if underwhelming) backup plan if the board gets wiped is exactly why I've been advocating for moving up if the first 6-7 picks go as expected.
I certainly wouldn't have a problem moving up a few spots. It's certainly one of those things you have to assess while the draft is going on. But yeah, it's pretty rare for me to advocate moving up in the draft but I do think there is a pretty defined tier that you want to get one of the defensive players from. Guys that are impact defenders. Downs, Styles, Bain, Bailey, Reese and Delane are impact defenders.
I think those guys are worth giving up a little to get. Some more than others. But ultimately you have to sit back and hope that teams will view some of these offensive guys the same way. 6 players, 12 picks. If the draft leans defense you miss out. If it's an even split with offense and defense you're right on the cusp. And if the draft leans offense at all you may have a shot at more than one of those guys.
Right now unfortunately I think the top of this draft is leaning defensive. But never underestimate NFL teams drafting for need.
But let's say for example Brugler has a pretty good pulse on the draft. 6 of his top 10 players are defensive. However his player 11, 12 and 13 are all offensive players. So what you really need are for some teams to slightly prefer those offensive players. Maybe because of need.
