I'm still hesitant on McCoy despite the workout numbers, I think I'd take Thieneman over him but I'm definitely fine with him at 12 whereas before I'd have been disgusted if he hadn't worked out.

I like Thieneman a lot. And maybe that's part of why I'm not that worried about Downs. If I didn't get Downs but got Thieneman I think we still end up with a pro bowl safety. Maybe even a slightly more physically gifted safety. And one who I think can play FS/deep center better than Downs potentially.

And I get the hesitation with McCoy. I think he has the potential to be a top 5 corner in the NFL. But not having seen him play for over a year does give me pause. I just haven't seen him play real football since the ACL and I don't know what that looks like for sure.

Here's the real question, rank these sorts of guys (basically everyone outside of the top 6 defensive players):

Thieneman, McCoy, Mesidor, Faulk, McNeil-Warren, Fano, anybody else you feel should be in the mix.

That's not my ranking but I'm curious because that could very easily be the situation we find ourselves in.

Just curious, did yall think Thieneman was this good before the combine?

Not saying you're wrong, I'm just kind of skeptical when no one thought he was top-12 before that.

McCoy
Thieneman

I wouldn't put anyone else in the mix. I don't think any other defender is worth the pick, and I'm not even sure about Thieneman but I think I have less questions about him than the rest of the guys. And I'm sure he'll be there.

But if McCoy is still there and he's the last of the Mohicans I'd take him.

Without studying it too much, McCoy, Mesidor, Faulk, Fano, Hyphen, Thieneman Square.

I put the safeties later mostly because of our needs and positional value.

Now that I think about it I guess I'd consider Mesidor but I do have concerns about his age and his foot.

I thought he was in the conversation at 20 but I didn't think he was an elite level athlete until he went nuts at the Combine.

So for me that bumped him up from strong consideration at 20 to backup plan at 12.

Honestly I liked him at 20 before the combine. I don't really like him at 12. But for an exercise where I can't trade down I feel pretty confident of what he would be capable of doing in Dallas. So no I don't want him at 12 but I also don't know what to do at 12 if the top 6 defenders are gone.

For the record a lot of people are mocking Thieneman to the Vikings at 18 so it's not a crazy reach at 12.

Been meaning to say, I think it's hilarious that everyone has been mocking him there. I mean, their long time white safety is on the way out... must get them another one.

So for me at least, and I know this isn't going to fit the concensus

McCoy
Thieneman
Cashius Howell

Those would probably be my next 3 on defense. All guys I would consider high impact defenders. I could keep going but there really isn't a point as I think at least 2 of those 3 would be available at 12.

For me I think it's Thieneman, McCoy and then Mesidor, but obviously that's a very fluid part of the draft.

I like Mesidor but I just favor the elite explosive athlete pass rusher over the bigger less explosive types. If I was running a base 4-3 I'd probably favor the opposite in this situation. But yeah, Mesidor probably isn't far off from my 3.

I like Mesidor's body of work. But his age coupled with his foot is a no for me.

I really hope that somebody takes him between 13-19 and takes the temptation away from us.

McCoy
Thieneman Square
Methusidor

You might be able to talk me into M-W but I think that would be quite a stretch. Also, I'm a little offended you even put an OL in the list.

Yeah I just don't see a scenario where you'd take M-W at 12 unless you like him more than Thieneman.

Anyone consider putting Peter Woods in the discussion? Its really Dline/pass rusher or DB we are talking about here. I think the LBers would all be a massive reach at 12.

Honestly BPA is probably offense if we want to be honest about it.

If we didn't have QW I would easily have Woods in the mix. I just think he would be a luxury with QW on the team.
