They can't fix this defense in one year. They're too far down and need too much. Parker's intriguing, but talent is more important than coaching.

But that doesn't mean they shouldn't try with everything they've got.

And honestly, with 13 picks they could fix quite a lot in this draft given how deep the Edge and CB positions go, especially if they land one of the elite LB's (Reese, Styles, CJ Allen, Anthony Hill) early considering they already signed Thompson at Safety.

What would you typically have to give up to move from 12 to like 6 if Styles was there? (I am not saying we should do this, just curious what picks we would have to use)

Probably 12 plus a 2nd this year and most likely a 3rd next year.

According to Grok it would probably require the equivalent of about a 2nd round pick.

I one thousand percent wouldn't do it though (the fact that we don't have a 2nd not withstanding).

Some creative types have talked about trading with the Browns 12 & 20 for 6 & 39, or with KC (12 & 20 for 9 & 29). Those would be more palatable to me since you aren't losing the number of players you can get just switching the order so we could get in position for a Styles or Downs (or even a Bailey or Reese if we got really lucky). I'd still be hesitant though because that hurts our ability to move back and add additional picks (although admittedly that's less of a priority now after already adding a 3rd).

I just saw a mock that had us doing just this. Traded 12 and 20 to Cleveland where we took Reuben Bain Jr. We got back their pick at 39 where we took Anthony Hill Jr. And got some other late round pick(s). Can't remember what it was.

I'd still be hesitant though because that hurts our ability to move back and add additional picks (although admittedly that's less of a priority now after already adding a 3rd).

I would be more open to it because we added a starting corner. But honestly I still want as many picks as possible to stock the defense with young talent. Guys like Durant and Locke are just 1 year deals and we will be back to needing most of these positions next year unless we start hitting on multiple picks.

I'd do that for Arvell Reese or maybe David Bailey. It's hard to say Bain is that much better than his teammate Mesidor who's considered a late-rounder.

I have a high opinion of the value of high draft picks, and these players are not living up to expectations.

This year as much or more than ever demand is forcing the selections at these positions vs the talent demanding it.

Would Mendoza, Bailey, Reese, or Bain be considered these top picks based on talent alone, or is it mostly because they are the best in this year's class at what are considered premium positions?

Of these, Reese IMO is the one guy with the freakish talent that demands a top five pick. CeeDee Lamb for example, was a higher rated prospect than anyone in this draft straight up except Reese.
