Yeah, Milton lacks self-awareness. I’m over him. He should’ve already signed to our practice squad and been ready to get better. All he’s showing me, is that we made the right choice for backup. Move along, shitbird.
 
For the record, according to Grok Milton can't sign with anyone including Dallas until 4pm today.

"For a player who has just cleared waivers (like Joe Milton after the Cowboys’ corresponding roster move), clubs—including his prior team—are prohibited from signing him to a practice-squad contract until the league office has issued a simultaneous Personnel Notice to all 32 teams confirming that his prior contract is terminated and he is a free agent. Claim periods and the subsequent notices are timed around these standardized windows (often aligning with or referencing the 4 p.m. ET framework used throughout the CBA and annual Important Dates calendar). "

So if I was going to guess, I think he was upset with the situation of not being named the #2 QB. Schotty being the good guy he is, granted him the release but basically said if you can't find a better opportunity we want you here competing for that job still. I think this literally took place right after the press conference on Monday where Schotty basically said, it's neck and neck we have no decision on who the #2 is.

I say this is likely because I remember when we traded for Milton from the Pats it was because Milton supposedly told the Patriots he wanted to go somewhere else with a better opportunity to be a starter (Or something like that). I think Milton has a high opinion of his abilities. And so the reason he hasn't signed with our practice squad yet is because he is probably still trying to figure out if someone else out there will provide him a better path to being a starter. The problem is, most teams have set their QB depth charts. I don't think he has enough skins on the wall to step in and be another teams #2 QB from day 1. And so despite what Milton thinks, his real best opportunity is in Dallas where I honestly think Schotty hadn't made up his mind yet.

Yeah I know Archer has shot down the theory. I just think maybe it's partially true. Plus Schotty and the team probably don't want people to know that. Kind of a bad look for everyone. You don't want players to know that you'll just release them if they ask for it. If you're Milton that's kind of a bad look for you.

That or maybe it wasn't Schotty's decision at all, hell if I know.

I think they both played well which is why I wanted to keep 3 QBs.

But to your latter point, I think it's because Milton had the "wow" game that he stands out more.

He didn't look as sharp in game 3 whereas Howell was really good in game 3.

But Milton's game 2 was REALLY good and it was full of big plays, including ones where he showed off his arm strength like the beauty of a deep ball he threw to Mingo.

And that's why I think Milton left more of an impression on the fans than Howell did even though their overall performances over the entire preseason were very even.

Yeah I remember getting kind of pissed over Flournoy being cut last year. And in the end, didn't really matter. It almost feels very similarly. Makes the 53, cut before the first game and then added to the practice squad. By week 2 he was on the roster and having some impact games for the team.

If we would have lost Flo, it wouldn't have been Jimmy Smith level disaster, but it woulda sucked.

I agree. And I think most of us recognized and liked him a lot at the time. Something is weird about that second round of cuts that happens. You get that initial round of waiver claims. But those then cause a second round of cuts. You don't really see guys from that second round of cuts claimed and it kind of feels like the Cowboys bank on it.
