I agree that we don't have an elite number 1 type, and actually have decent enough depth, although it's not something I'd necessarily prioritize next offseason over other areas, OT namely.
 
One other random thought, I give the organization (Schottenheimer, Stephen, whoever) credit for getting rid of Blue. He was clearly a bit of a Johnny Fuckaround and I appreciate them not wasting any more time with him if they weren't happy with what they were seeing out of his approach/mentality.

It wasn't anything glaringly obvious like with Diggs, but if you add up all the little things (Gucci cleats, soft fumbles, etc.) it was kind of obvious. And on the field he never developed into more than a specialty player, maybe if he comes back on the PS it'll light a bit of a fire and he gets more serious.

I mean I know Davis was kind of a fuckup early in his career. He has come a long way to where he is now. You hope that if Blue gets on the practice squad that Davis can sort of be a living example for him. Odds are at some point this season we will need another RB. I doubt we go the whole year with no injuries to Jevonte or Davis. So if the plan is Luepke, Davis and Jevonte to start the season, whoever is the RB on the practice squad will likely get a shot at some point.

I think the idea is that they're probably fine with keeping any 1-2 of the three they cut on the PS in case of emergency, without too much of a preference.

I'm sure they'd like to keep Blue on the PS more than the other two just because of his potential, but the difference is probably marginal, which is why they cut all three.

I don't really care what they do short of some kind of trade because the PS stuff is whatever, but they need to focus on ways to situationally get Davis and Luepke a few touches a game.

Last year Dak had the second most rushing attempts at 53, Davis had 52. I get that the offense was always under pressure to score every drive with our shit hole defense, so I get always having your top guy in, but assuming we have a normal defense this year there's no excuse for not getting Davis and Luepke a combined 12 or so touches per game to limit the wear and tear on Williams.

I think one of the big things with Blue is they couldn't trust him in pass protection, that's not as much of an issue with Davis and Luepke.

I agree. Although I always tho8ght Blue could bring something a little unique with his speed and route running ability. Never really saw Dallas try to use him that way. Those aren't always skills super easy to find on a practice squad. But otherwise I agree with you. Lots of tough runners in the NFL that don't give you a lot more than just that.

I agree with both getting more touches, but especially Luepke. The man can be a faster version of Moose if used properly. He can be a valuable weapon. He has shown that. Surely, Adams can see that by now. You don't even have to be all that creative to do so.

This is what I was saying the other night about him holding his own against Garrett 1 on 1 a few times.

He's still very average at best, and definitely looks shitty on several snaps, but I don't think Thomas (and definitely not Shelton) could hold his own against Garrett like that even if it was only a handful of snaps.

Steele might not even be able to either, which is why I think the logic behind the trade is hope he can get back to his pre-injury form and then you either have a big upgrade at swing tackle, and possibly even a starter at RT.

It's honestly amazing looking back at the guys who played the most snaps on defense last year.

The top two on the entire defense in snaps played were Donovan Wilson and Kenneth Murray, both basically out of the league.

Then you have Reddy Steward, Kaiir Elam, Sam Williams and Trevon Diggs in the middle, all either out of the league or PS-types. Then on the lower end you have Logan Wilson who is retired, Trikweze Bridges, Jack Sanborn and Juanyeh Thomas, all PS types or on the street.

That's 10 guys out of our top 20 or so in snaps played who are all out of the league or hoping to catch onto a PS.

Then out of the guys who are actually still playing legit NFL football, several were either rookies (Ezeiruaku, Shemar James), coming off major injuries (Overshown) or both (Revel).

We basically only had 10 defensive players last season who were vets and talented enough to actually be playing legit NFL football: Bland, Osa, Clark (traded for a week before the opener), Hooker, Solomon Thomas, Clowney (signed two weeks into the season), Fowler, Bell, Houston and Quinnen (traded for midseason).

So after fast forwarding a year, last year week 1 we basically had 7 vets on defense who had actually been with the team for any meaningful period of time, and two of them (Bell and Houston) are ST/back end of the roster types.

So effectively week 1 we had 5 defensive players capable of starting (and I use that term loosely with Thomas and Fowler) in the NFL who had spent more than a few weeks with the team: Bland, Osa, Hooker, Solomon Thomas and Fowler.

The rest were either rookies, PS types, guys who should be out of the league, or guys who had joined about a week prior.

That looked mostly not good to me. Not a disaster but not good.

I mean it looked bad to me but I didn't want to judge too hard because of who he was going against. Obviously most OTs look bad against Garrett. Nothing about that made me feel better about him though.

Again, "not a disaster" is what they're going for, nobody in the league is going to trade someone an actually good OT.
 
Should be hearing about PS guys and/or guys getting claimed sometime soon since the deadline was 1 EST, curious to see what happens with Blue in terms of getting claimed or not.
