That's all the voidable years are doing. It's how a 50 mil a year QB can count only 12 mil against the cap.

Did you also know that Philly had 61 mil in dead cap this year? Didn't even matter. They still had plenty of money for free agency. They show the cap isn't really real. It's easy to manipulate with contract structure.

But teams like the Cowboys want you to believe it's real, because then they can spend less. It's like this offseason. We could have 100 mil in cap space and sign anyone we want. Right now it looks like we have no cap space. Do you think the Cowboys will free up all that space and spend? Of course not. We will hear about pie and how it's limited.

I am no way agreeing with the Jones boys and their method of spending, but that eventually has to come due at some point, right? Even if it's years down the line. Or am I mistaken?

So the simple explanation is 50 mil against the cap today means less than 50 mil against the cap 4 years from now. So this season 50 mil is almost 20% of your cap. Four years ago that would have been 25% of your cap. And 4 years from now it will probably be 15% of the cap. So yes the money eventually hits the cap. But if you keep pushing money out when the old money becomes "due" you push out the new money.

Again, yes it becomes "due" and that's why the Eagles had 61 mil in dead cap in 2024. That's more than an elite QB costs! But who gives a shit when your QB only costs 12 mil because you pushed that all out to the distant future.

The thing with the Eagles is that they're always tinkering with the roster and they have a normal organizational structure.

That's really it as fas as the difference between us and them, the talent levels have been more or less the same for the last 10+ years.

We were the 2 seed last year and fell on our faces because the environment around this team is toxic, they were the 2 seed this year and went all the way (with a little luck), largely because the football environment around the team is sane.

Our best hope is basically maintaining a relatively high standard of talent and just hoping things fall our way one year in spite of the football environment.

To me, the biggest example is what they did with Wentz. Jerry never would have done that. If Wentz had been drafted by Dallas in the same circumstance, he'd still be a Cowboy and would now have a massive extension and cap charge.

Their defensive talent lacks our fundamental flaws, and their OL has been steadily built to a blueprint over time.

Not saying Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter are HOFers, but between the two of them they have the core of a strong defensive interior rotation that enables all the other role players around them. Their OL, given a chance to run block for a true stud, got even better. It reminds me of our Great Wall's improvement after Emmitt arrived.

I wonder how our young OL might have grown had they been blocking for Saquon Barkley? It's tremendously motivating to be able to meaningfully run block well into the fourth quarter vs endlessly pass blocking after halftime.

Back to the defense, just imagine what Micah Parsons would do with such support up front? Holy shit

Excellent example. It epitomizes the kinds of moves good organizations make. I can't think of a time when we did anything close to that and there have been numerous times when we should have. They're too lazy to do anything proactive like this.

Their OL coach sets them apart too, he's one of the best in the game, without him they'd probably only be roughly above average.

And to your point about Barkley, we'll see next year once we draft Jeanty.
