No formula is perfect, but this is as good as you can hope for and I think it's a terrible idea to alter this in any way.

You still get a home game except when you are what would by today’s rules be the 4th seed and all three wildcard teams have better records.

How by any definition is that pathetic a division winner worth getting a home game?

The argument I’m hearing is something akin to “Because reasons!”

How do we know this formula has ‘gotten it right’ when it’s the only formula the NFL has ever used and better options (like winning teams who actually earned a home game by merit of being a better team) have never been tried.

The current system’s results would mostly hold true, until that pathetic division winner comes along. Then fuck that team.
