Winning your division will still guarantee you a playoff slot. That's not insignificant. But we were three games better than Tampa when we had to travel there.

I mean I'm assuming you'd still get in with an 8-8 record if you win your division. You just wouldn't get to be the 4 seed as a result.

Frankly I think divisions meant a lot more when you had 5 teams in a division and your division made up 8 games of a 16 game schedule. They have been reducing the importance of the division ever since.

It sucks when it happens to you, but automatic playoff qualification and a home game via winning your division has gotten things right way way way more than it has gotten it wrong.

No formula is perfect, but this is as good as you can hope for and I think it's a terrible idea to alter this in any way.

I hope it gets voted down.

The argument works both ways. You don’t want to travel, win your division. You should be rewarded for your play on the field is the way most people argue. I think it is still fair to get in the playoffs by winning your division but then seeding by w/l record. MLB and NBA both just go by conference. NFL could do the same but keep the division winners in
