I'd rather invest the Pickens money in the defense now. It is a fuckin embarrassment. Take my chances with Flo at 2.

Unfortunately I don't know that spending 30 mil on the defense in free agency is on the table. And I know it wouldn't be worth the drop off you'd see on offense.

Maybe you could swap Pickens leaving for Trey Hendrickson? And even still now you lost the comp pick you'd get for Pickens. So to really get any value out of Pickens you still have to franchise and try to trade the guy.

Yeah, well, you'll have the same fancy offense that couldn't win shootouts this year and the same embarrassment on defense.

I don’t think this offense will perform nearly as good without Pickens … Flo is a great 3 …

The defense is horrible as we all know…it has a shit ton to with Elberfuck and his scheme .. I think some of the personnel we have are great players on this side of the ball however have fallen victim to the scheme and look terrible in doing so … I say we need a new DC ..Obviously !… between the draft and few FA pick ups .. this defense will do a complete 180…

So stop fucking around and spend on defense and keep Pickens. So you have the same elite offense and maybe not an embarrassment on defense. We literally have the switches to clear up like 80 mil in cap space if we want to. I don't want to hear about Pickens holding us hostage from doing anything on defense. And oh yeah, we also have 2 first round draft picks to throw at the thing. You sure as shit should be able to get two good starters with two first round draft picks. Otherwise your draft department needs to kick rocks.

But beyond all that, the defensive coordinator will have the biggest positive (negative) impact on this defense next year. Go get a bad ass defensive coordinator, who costs nothing against the cap, and you'll see the biggest improvement on that side of the ball.
 
History would suggest that if they pay Pickens a market value contract then they will use that as an excuse why they can't do anything else.

History would suggest that they will make any excuse to not sign impact defensive players. Sure you might get some Dante Fowler/Murray types. But you're not getting Hendrickson if history tells you anything. Regardless of what you do with Pickens.
