Gah. Stupid internet let me down. We have been playing the Niners a lot in preseason lately. You are correct. That was the Lamb, Gallup, T.Y. “anybody can replace Amari” Hilton year.

Yeah like I said, we were down to like Noah Brown being our second best receiving threat. It was really pathetic. Just imagine if we charged the credit cards and kept Amari for that year. But nope, couldn't afford that 20 mil and to resign the great washed up Gallup. So we went the cheap route.

I don't know that I'm ready to say his ankle is fucked. But I do think they try to hold him back to prevent injury. Which I also think is a bad idea. As we have seen he still gets hurt. You have to let a guy play the way he has played best his entire career. If you ask a QB to hold back from running I think you create other opportunities for injury.
He has stated that he is ready to run like he did four years ago, sorry ain’t buying that. His mechanics looked like he took a step back last season, then he got hurt on a play that seemed innocuous. If he is the guy and wants to do it, strap him up and pour it all into this season. But I am sure they want to preserve him over the length of the contract.

I don't think we need to have this debate again because it accomplishes nothing. But Romo was a bit better than Dak. Romo made spares like Laurent Robinson and miles Austin into real players. Romo made offenses work at a high level with Julius Jones/ Felix Jones and Marion Barber as his main running backs some years.

They are at an equal level. I don’t see how you can romanticize the Romo era and say the Prescott era is worse.

Romo made offenses work with that talent at a high level to exactly one and done or the even worse, the .500 win and in bullshit.

Prescott did with the same with poor quality running game support. He had Elliott for three years. Since then, feh.

I don't agree with that. Sure, their playoff success is a mirror image. But Romo did more with less.

Romo was clearly a better QB.

I think Romo was a bit better and more talented in certain respects, but generally I think you can lump them together as good, but not great QB's, who will largely end up with similar careers when it's all said and done.

At the end of the day I think they're guys who could've gone to or won a SB if they had been part of an organization/team similar to what you saw with Roethlisberger, Eli, Flacco, or the Eagles SB's, and maybe the Stafford SB with the Rams.

The eye test and stats both support Romo. He was a better passer and far more creative.

Romo's body failed him. Crapped out in the genetics department. Dak hasn't been much better since he badly broke his foot

We can have this debate, sure.

My big thing is what is next.

I suppose we try with Milton, then ended up having to draft a QB early by 2028 at least.

Given the guys we wanted to pick in past drafts, that is quite a terrifying thought.

This is likely. They hype up Milton for the next year or two and convince themselves he is the answer. Trade Dak away for a 5th and then hope they are right on Milton as we flirt with QB hell.

No way Milton is the guy. Just can't see it.

I'll hold judgment on the kid until I see him play. He will get lots of snaps in preseason and odds are will start at least a regular season game or two. His college career doesn't give me a ton of hope. But the physical talent and way he played for the Pats shows promise. So I'll wait and see on him.

No. Make up your mind on him right now.

I mean there was a time that if you asked me what I thought of Romo I would have said no way is he going to become a franchise QB. Same thing with Dak. This team has gotten extremely lucky with 2 QBs. I doubt we have the same luck with a third but it keep my mind open at least.

Of course the difference is Dak and Romo played a ton of college ball. Other late round QB success stories like Brady and Purdy also played a ton of college ball. Melton was a one year starter.

Romo is substantially better than Dak.

There's just not a lot of non elite QBs winning Super Bowls outside of Philly and Eli Manning lately.

I'd put the 2015 Broncos in that category as well, they had "Peyton Manning" but he was a shell of himself and completely cooked at that point. 2015 Peyton Manning is honestly one of the worst QB's to win a Super Bowl in the last 20 or so years, probably since Trent Dilfer.

Early career Russell Wilson fits closer to the Philly/Manning tier than elite QB's as well.

That's kinda always the case.

And Eli Manning was not elite but he was pretty darn good. Not like he was Trent Dilfer.

What he had that was elite was his ability to play his best and elevate his play in big games.

That guy possessed the clutch gene his brother was missing.

If you could combine that with Peyton's passing talent, he, not Brady, would be the GOAT.

Peyton's brain puts him above that category I think.

Yep. That was 95% the defense and 5% Peyton being smart enough to realize that and not give the game away.

I just hope they have a plan. He could be at Tootie-level with some decent coaching.

At the very least, they would be foolish to have him molder on the bench ala Trey Lance when he could at least run some gadgets.
