2025 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread

Why blame the shot if it was just about money? There was definitely more to it than just money in my opinion. Something changed during that season with Cooper and the Cowboys.

Maybe so. I have no idea. But again... Do you think that Cooper was the only guy on the team to not get the shot? And if not, why was he the only one they got rid of? It's not like he was a John Roper type cut. He was one of the better players on the team.

[NoDak]

He missed an important game (that we could've won had he played) and Jerry was pissed. Not that complicated. The no-show games on the road were the final straw.

It's not like he made a personal choice to miss the game. He was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and was forced to miss the game. It's not like taking the shot would have prevented catching it. That's already been proven. He was not a "no show".

[Genghis Khan]

He was not a "no show".

He wasn't, but bbgun is referring with that phrase to the already discredited theory that Cooper didn't show up in road games throughout his career. Not accurate, but bbgun has always erroneously clung to it anyway.

Jerry held a grudge with Jimmy for 3 decades over nothing. I have nondoubt Jerry can be very petty.

Something about taking the shot allowed a player to come back quicker if I remember correctly. And for the idiot's who believed the shot prevented the spread of covid or from getting covid, I'm sure a person who believed in the vaccine would think choosing to not get the shot and missing a game is a selfish move. But Cooper is no dummy. Jerry on the other hand...

I think it was about money more than anything.

I think a combination of the two things. They were pissed at him for a course of action that caused him to miss a game, and then were like “well why should we pay a guy this much when we can’t count on him?”

Of course they were forgetting the fact that missing one game for not getting the jab isn’t a demonstration of non reliability, it’s standing up for yourself, and as for the money, they could afford it at the time under the cap so really they were just being miserly on value. It was an overpay but we needed what he brought; they saved the money and lost the talent because they are penny wise pound foolish.

Right, if you'd taken the shot you got to return faster than if you hadn't.

Of course now we know those PCR tests were bullshit, and that the shots did next to nothing. But back then they didn't know. Especially those with their heads in the sand. I suspect Jerry was terrified that some player could give it to him and that's why it was more personal for him.

Yeah I don’t think it was “he wouldn’t take the shot.”

I think they probably wanted more from him in some capacity and he’s an odd guy, his behavior wasn’t bad but that’s why he was traded from Oakland too, oddity. And the Cowboys took the incident as an opportunity to read him as unserious about the team, which, in conjunction with his massive contract, they wrongly jumped to the conclusion that they don’t need such an expensive player who isn’t fully committed.

It was a wrong decision from all angles by the team. One of the worst unforced errors I’ve ever seen out of this ownership and that’s saying something.

Amari never should have left here.

Just looked it up. Cooper tested positive on 19 NOV 21. The Chiefs game was 21 Nov 21, and the Raiders game was the next Thursday, 25 Nov 21. So he would have missed both of those games for testing positive, shot or no shot.

I think they were pretty pissed off that Cooper followed that up by going to a Mavs game either right before the wild card game or the last game of the year at Philly.

He isn't a rah rah "leader type"

Reminds me of the WR from Jerry McGuire "you're telling me to dance." Cooper isn't an entertainer in the way Jerry probably wants his 20 mil WRs to be.

Whatever the reason, it wasn’t a good one.

Getting rid of Cooper for literally no good reason and replacing him with no one was one of the stupidest decisions I’ve ever seen this franchise make and I’ve seen them make a lot of them.

You had a 1A and 1B WR combo with Cooper and Lamb and having talent edges like that is how you win in this league. You gotta be overwhelming somewhere. On top of that our WB has proven he needs high end receiver talent to put up high end numbers.

Instead we went out and got a handful of 3s and 4s and never even got a 2 to replace him. Cooks was washed and nowhere close to Cooper.

If they would've at least gotten fair value (a 2, maybe a 3) it might've made some sense, but sending him off for nothing made the decision even more ridiculous.

You could have perhaps drafted a replacement #2 WR if you got a second or third. Probably not an equal caliber player to Cooper but you could have found maybe a Michael Gallup, who, for a brief time there, was certainly better than the Jalen Tolberts and Jalen Cooks and the version of Brandin Cooks that we got.

Christian Watson, George Pickens and Wan’Dale Robinson all went in that second round.

At least they aren't 4th rounders that we can give away.

I mean I have no idea how the guy produced back to back 1000 yard seasons in Cleveland with their shit show at QB. Last season was certainly a down year. But in Buffalo he averaged almost 15 ypc and caught 62% of balls thrown to him. That's pretty good efficiency for a guy if he has no wheels.

I watched Amari a few times last season, and he didn’t look quite as quick as he did in Dallas. Could have simply been the playing surface or the lack of work between the QB and himself as you pointed out.
There’s no arguing that this offense needs speed at the WR position and hopefully if they are bringing AC back -or signing anyone for that matter- the brain trust realizes the need to upgrade the WR core speed outside of Lamb.

But it might make them more comfortable in giving their 4th away.

His second stint will be as successful as Zeke's.

It's so hard to trade back into the fourth round. Seems like that round kind of gets a premium most years. And for good reason, like I have mentioned before it seems like the fourth round has a lot of talent left that teams just overlooked on Day 2. Boards kind of get restacked and a lot of that talent suddenly goes in the fourth on Day 3.

Give away a 5th, fine with me. Sixth ok cool. But god dammit, stop giving away the fourth round picks.
