McCarthy shouldn't want to come back. Obviously he can't say anything now because he needs to keep up the perception that he's considering multiple options.

Jerry having him under contract for another week may really hurt him.

Dallas either wants him back or they don't. Not sure why this is so complicated for the Cowboys. We always have to live in this drug out half in half out world. Like do something with some fucking conviction. It's a head coach, I'm not sure why this organization struggles so badly with making decisions. Everything has to be some sort of "at the right price, we want him if he wants us" bullshit.

I truly believe they're mainly doing to for the attention.

The Cowboys product sucked this year and the team didn't make the playoffs. This is probably their lame way of staying in the national headlines through wildcard weekend.

He'd have to contend with the Packers, Lions, and Vikings with an "in progress" QB under center. All things considered, I think he'd rather stay in Dallas.

I think he absolutely wants to stay in Dallas.

I don't see where it means they're bringing him back at all.

I think it just means Jerry wants to keep him from anyone else until he see who else is available or who he wants to talk to.

I do. Jerry wants exclusive negotiating rights for the next week.
So wait until fewer jobs are open so he can lowball him? Maybe, I guess.

Seems like we'd hear more about them negotiating right now if that were the case, though.

If Jerry makes him an offer, he'll take it. He can't count on the Bears or any other HC job.

He's letting teams get further along in the process with other candidates, by the time 1/14 comes up I bet most of these shit teams will be setting up 2nd interviews and you'll probably have one or two completely off the board (I assume Vrabel will be hired somewhere by the weekend).

So I think Jerry is gambling on whether or not there are any teams willing to wait on McCarthy, and if not Jerry has all the leverage.

It's ridiculous, of course, but so is about 75% of the stuff this organization does.
