I think you're mostly right but I think the offense is getting too much blame because we don't win unless they play nearly perfectly.

They played plenty well enough to beat Minnesota and even the Chargers in the first half, but when your defense is so bad that they're consistently turning leads into deficits because they can't get more than one stop a game, eventually the dam breaks on offense.

For example, we were down 14-10 against the Chargers, Dak hit Pickens for the big TD to go up 17-14. When you're at home that should be a big momentum turning play, but the next time they got the ball they were down 24-17 because the defense literally is incapable of getting stops. Similar things happened against Minnesota the week before and several games earlier in the year.

This is 100 percent accurate and sums up everything that went wrong with the team this year. You can not win games when your defense just gets driven off the field. Wouldn't matter if you had the greatest offense in the history of the game.

It's "illegal" (illegal is a dumb way to put it) in the CBA to move a guy from guard to tackle just because you paid him? I find that very hard to believe.

If he's great at tackle he'll be compensated accordingly in his next contract.

Such a short sighted (and selfish) hissy fit by the player and agent. Martin pulled this too.

Hmm, pretty sure Bobby Belt said there were already escalators in his contract if they did move him.

Of course Belt and Hill are both jackasses, so who knows.

I do find it hard to believe that it's illegal under the CBA to move players. What about a Hoffman going from C to G or vice versa?

Also, it's not automatic that a T gets paid more than a G. Smith himself makes more money than most tackles. What if a guy is a much better G than T?

Edit, great minds, Geng... or something like that.

Tyler Smith is one of those players that I would want to keep happy. For one, he is a monster on the field. He is a top 3 guard in the NFL, I'm struggling to think of two better than him. He has proven in the past he has the ability to play tackle, if the plan is to move him there long term he should be paid as such. Is he a top tier tackle? I bet he's close. Second, he has become a vocal leader on the field. We need that, everywhere. I know he just got a contract, but I could see Jerry redoing this one if the move sticks.

I think he's saying it's not allowed to have contract clauses that adjust the contract up or down based on changing positions.

Either way the highest paid LT in the league is at about $28/year, it's not a massive difference.

I'm guessing Smith is more concerned with being an elite LG vs. only a good LT, which impacts Pro Bowls, possible HoF, etc.

I think he's worried about money. I think that's very clear when the agent is stepping in.

It's the same bullshit Martin pulled. He got paid very very well already. Do what's best for the team, bitch.

Plus this from Hill:

Smith is paid at the top of the guard market but to tackle is a different tax bracket. He is well aware of the difference

Of course Clarence is always looked for the oppressed/grievance angle.

Not very many athletes will ever do that. I dont even bother hoping for it anymore. Just a greed filled world that we live in.

If there wasnt then thats on the agent. Giving that there was talking of him playing there for years that should have been in the contract.

Sad but true. And considering he's the highest paid guard but probably wouldn't be the highest paid tackle (he might be the best guard in the league but he's probably not the best tackle) the difference in money would likely be negligible.
