Yeah true. I don't know what the behind the scenes stuff was like but not even a year and a half seems crazy.

And I'll be honest and say that I haven't really paid attention to the Titans, so I'm not totally up to speed on what's going on there.

However, just generally speaking, sometimes it's not too early to do something like this just based on how a team looks. If the energy is bad and the players clearly aren't buying in, the coaching decisions are head-scratching, and the losses are piling up? I don't think you need to give that particular coach more time to "figure it out".

That's just a bad situation that isn't going to get any better, so you might as well cut your losses early into it.

Whether or not this applies specifically to Callahan, that I don't know, but again, I was just speaking generally about making a coaching change soon into their tenure.

It's definitely early and there are plenty of examples of guys who I thought got a raw deal and weren't given enough time to try and change things around.

But there are other times when you can tell pretty early on that the guy you hired to fix things isn't capable of doing so and if you identify that, it's just best to move on early on and not waste even more time than you already have.

A perfect example would be Eberflus.

Not only are we statistically awful, but so many of the coaching concepts are just baffling, not to mention how lost the players on the field look.

There is no good logical reason to give him more time or to believe things are going to improve under his guidance.

The only reason why he's still employed is because the people calling the shots are even more clueless than he is.

Yeah, I'm not really a Titans guy and have watched zero games this year. It takes time to build a culture and certainly it takes time to build talent on a roster that has almost no talent. But yeah you can sometimes see a coach who is just way over his head at an early stage. So maybe behind the scenes that sort of thing is obvious. But in terms of on the field performance and wins and losses it's too early to make the decision in my opinion. Even if the team looks like shit on the field I just think that can't be reason enough to fire a guy this quickly.
 
Not just this quickly but in the earlyish stages of a season as opposed to the offseason.
