Everything boils down to the fact that there are people in charge who will never be held accountable, that's all there is to it and it explains basically everything.

And somehow we've managed to have some decent success over the last 10 years, the problem is there's no real evolution or truly creative thinking beyond "what they know" because it's basically a static environment where nobody ever leaves.

Look, those 5th round comp picks are quality picks. If we get enough of them, one of the 10 players picked over that 5 year span may work out. You need to stop being so short-sighted and understand that the cap is built around the long game. Strategic planning. Jerry said so, so it must be true.

The sad thing is that sometimes the solution is to trade those valuable players away for draft picks that have cheap contracts. If you don't want to spend money than stack your roster with as many players as possible still on rookie deals. Instead we never do that. We cling to those players for everything they are worth until they leave and we get nothing or almost nothing in return.
