I mean the guy was a big play machine in college but yeah I don't know what that forty will be. Doesn't really matter that much to me. I mean how often are you concerned about a RB getting caught from behind going 40+ yards? But I do think that NFL teams could shy away if he doesn't have the same measurables as other past top RBs. It's like a corner running a 4.55. It basically makes them undraftable at the top of the draft. Even though someone like Andrew Booth could run a 4.4 and get toasted deep regularly.

Yeah, 40 times are massively overrated.

For RB's it matters a ton.

Obviously if the guy is just some track star he's not going to succeed, but if he was productive in college the biggest indicator that success will translate is his 40 time.

You're basically saying that the biggest indicator is collegiate success and I agree.

The 40 time can be a supplemental tool but too often guys get overrated based on a great 40 time without having the college production to back it up.

Hmm, I think it's one of the least important. Vision, agility, cutting, toughness, "feel"... to me it's one of the toughest positions to quantify.

I just think you watch the guy. Does he have the speed to turn the corner? Yes, that's very important. But that's like 10 yards. Can he dart through the hole once it opens with burst and acceleration? Absolutely very important. Does a guy have great contact balance so that he can not only shed a tackle but keep moving while doing it? Extremely important.

Can a guy run 40 yards in the open field after he gets past the defenders? Nice, but not that important.

Now a 40 yard dash obviously considers some of that in itself. I mean those 10 yards are obviously contained in the forty. A guy who explodes with quickness is going to explode with quickness when running the forty. So I don't want to write it totally off. But reading the blocks, accelerating and breaking arm tackles is way more important. It's what I love about Jeanty and Kaleb Johnson. Hampton is less vision and that's why I have him more as my third. But man can he punish a defender.

The only intrigue is who Vrabel would hire to run the offense.

Gruden wouldn’t surprise me a bit

comfortable
Super Bowl winner
Ect

would be a typical Jerry hire.
