McCarthy will be sleeping at the Star this week.

The simple matter is that we cannot compete.

We lost badly to a Buffalo team that will be fortunate to make the post season.

You're underrating them, they're at least 50/50 to win the division and are almost a lock to make the playoffs. They beat the Chiefs on the road and outplayed the Eagles pretty significantly, also on the road, and only lost because of a ridiculous set of fluke circumstances.

Of course those fluke calls all went their way today and directly handed them 11 points, and you're almost never going to recover from going down 14+ in the first half on the road. Part of that is on the players/coaches, but part of it is that sometimes you get fucked by the refs and can't recover, and that's what happened on the Lawrence penalty and the inexplicable Kearse penalty, not to mention the fumble.

I never liked our chances in this game and said so all week, but if you told me that we'd get fucked by the refs on top of committing our own dumbass penalties AND that we'd lose Martin on like the second drive, I'd have predicted probably something close to what happened.

Not really. The rain didn't come until late in the 3rd quarter, but even after that, I'm pretty sure both teams had to play in the same conditions. And blaming the refs is a cop out, especially when you come into the game as the most penalized team in the league. Martin and Hooker being out? Boo hoo. Buffalo had their best defensive player out (Matt Milano), their starting DE (Espenoza), starting safety (Hyde), starting cornerback (White), starting OL (Doyle), so just stop with the excuses. Losing to yet another road game to a quality opponent (and a 2nd blowout this year in that scenario) speaks to a lack of mental toughness. And the last 4-6 weeks, besides the Eagles (at home of course), who did the Cowboys play that was what you'd call a top notch team?

I know exactly what the circumstances were and I also know that sometimes teams find themselves going into games in bad spots, based on the specific circumstances surrounding the game.

That's what this was and I said it most of the week, throw the other stuff on top and that's what you get.

I guess anyone could have just filled in for Joe Montana with the amount of talent he had around him too.

Garoppolo was a literal Mahomes miracle from running away with the Super Bowl. Think about that, the guy who can barely see the field with the Raiders was up 2 scores almost all game against a QB who will go down as top 5 all time.

That's why Purdy is just a bus driver, and yes, any of 10+ QBs could replace him and give you the exact same results.

No, no, I don't think you do. All you're doing now is making lame excuses for them, reread your post. They simply were not mentally tough coming into this, and they paid the price.

Purdy has been doing it for 2 years now. And I can bet you he'll be doing it next year as well. There is a reason Garoppolo got replaced by him.

thought it was retarded to bench starters?

First of all, I meant laying Lamb out with that bad desperate pass.

Second of all, it's not benching to pull your starters when a game is out of reach. Benching has a different connotation.

Calling for Dak to be benched following an MVP worthy run because of 1 bad game is retarded, which is how it sounds when you say we should bench him.

What a dud, but at the end of the day we have to win the playoffs. That's it. I'm sick of all the bullshit. We just have to win in the playoffs. We could go 16-0 and it still doesn't matter to anybody until we do it in the playoffs.

After each playoff loss the past few years I was just waiting for the next opportunity...in the playoffs. Get me to the playoffs. Home, road, 49ers, Philly, whomever. That's where we have to prove it.

While this is true, I can't imagine this team beating one of the top teams in the playoffs.

It’s kind of like the Emmitt Smith debate. Lots of RBs could’ve had success, but Emmitt brought something extra. Sure there was often a hole opened by the OL, but it wasn’t always the designed hole and Emmitt had the superpower of finding and getting to it.

Difference between Purdy and Jimmy G, Purdy completes that pass to Emmanuel Sanders bomb in stride to clinch the Super Bowl.

I said all week that I didn't like the spot and thought Allen's legs would make the difference, and believe me, I know exactly who Epenesa, Milano, White and Hyde are, which is why I said if we could pass protect we should be able to pop a few plays down field.

Obviously going down 14+ early in weather mostly kills that.

I said all week that the spot favored Buffalo since we were coming off the biggest win of the year, on the road, primed for a letdown, playing a more desperate team and in bad conditions.

We got outplayed obviously but the two ridiculous calls that extended Buffalo drives in the first half is what led to things getting out of control, short of that it's likely a one score game at halftime. The run defense was probably too bad to have won regardless but the game got out of control early because of some very marginal calls, with no 50/50 calls really going our way.
