Jerruh likes to say that his ownership model is an advantage because they're not rushed and makes decisions best for the team long-term. Problem with that mentality is that, out of 31 other teams, every year there's at least one team willing to sell out to win now. As a result, while we're content to wait in line for our turn at the register, we always end up getting shoved out of the way by someone and are always waiting next in line. Teams employing the win-now mentality doesn't guarantee a Super Bowl, but there's enough of them every year.

There is selling out like the Redskins used to do, and there is shrewd maneuvering for key vets like the Eagles do. Ironically I'd say we "sell out," even more, in philosophy.

The Eagles aren't "selling out." They will go deal a veteran for three first round picks to some sucker in 12 weeks when the season is over. They don't mind creating small short term holes when idiots are willing to overpay.

Dallas clings to it's vets like grim death.

We are stupid and they are smart. Winning value exchanges is how you win in pro sports today and the Eagles have figured that out. But to get ahead in that game we have to be willing to sacrifice somewhere first, like, maybe give up having a first round pick this year if someone will give us back a first, second and fourth. You have to parlay assets into extra assets that you can then continue to invest in futures.

We can never do that because we're always scrambling to plug holes to "win now."

The problem here is, Jerry is too in love with his own draft picks and signings, probably because he's still trying to prove what a "football man" he is.

Once a player is on your team, you should be ruthlessly objective about how good they are and can they be upgraded. Not here, because Jerry's ego is involved.

I think everyone around the league knows Jerry over values his own guys. Which is why things rarely get done. Plus Jerry has consistently said he doesn't go searching for deals, he basically waits for others to come to him. Which isn't going to result in much happening.
