Vander Esch checked out the market last year and came back to us. We may need to do the same again this year. I want him back but he isn't worth anything significant or long.

I love Wilson too but just not a guy worth breaking the bank for. He is 28 and a really good but not great player. Again, someone who I would love to have back but if we have to replace him we can. I think we have a couple of good young safeties on the roster and we are pretty good at drafting and finding guys. If another team wants to pay Wilson big, he should take it. He won't get another big contract in his career.
 
LVE is probably gonna get a nice contract offer from some team. Is he worth it or is it time for one of the LSU LBs we've drafted over the years to step up?

I don't think he is worth it. He came on at the end of the season but people forget that they kind of bitched about him for most of the year when he was making tackles against the run 6 yards down field instead of attacking and making plays. But then he got hurt, things looked worse and then he had 2 excellent post season games.

It's definitely time for them to step up, but neither has shown the awareness that makes LVE so important to the defense.

Bringing back LVE is more important than Wilson even though Wilson might be the better player.

We have depth at safety with guys coming up through the pipeline in Mukuamu and Bell, LVE on the other hand is our QB on defense and seemingly the only guy who could keep shit straight last year.

We should extend them both as long as they aren't asking for the moon. We don't do shit in FA, and now we are going to let two key players on our defense the year after we let our WR1 go? It would be stupid.

Makes sense that they are looking at so many options at DB and LB at the combine. I would still rather bring Wilson back but again he isn’t a superstar and doesn’t need paid like one.
 
Wilson staying on a new contract? Excellent.

I agree with this. I would say Wilson is absolutely the better player. But yeah at LBer we just seem to hate Cox for some reason. Maybe he just sucks but gosh he looked really good in preseason so I still am a bit unsure what the deal there is. So then you really just have the 2 rookies from last year. I think Clark is going to be legit. Just too athletic and hard working to not be a good LBer. But LVE is the only veteran presence at the position we have. If you let him walk I think you have to go out and get one of these free agents LBers. I mean I'd let LVE go if it meant we were bringing in Wagner. There are other free agents too like Deion Jones, Tremaine Edmunds and Devin Bush. Probably some other good names to mention as well. So it will either drive down the market on LVE or we have other free agent options.

If they want to let LVE go and sign Wagner, great, I just don't trust these dumbasses to go outside of their comfort zone in FA like that.
 
If we're trading, go get a DT or WR.
