that award needs to go to the most impactful player over the entire season including the playoffs TBH.

No sport has ever done it like that.

I think it's going to be Purdy. If we win the division it might be Dak. Outside chance for Mahomes but he'll need to be much better down the stretch.

Mahomes doesn't deserve it. Not saying it's all his fault but he hasn't really been lighting it up on offense. The Chiefs haven't really been that great this year. And fair or not the award usually goes to the QB on the most dominant offense.

I agree but it's so up in the air this year and he's so good that I think a strong 5 final games could get it for him because of who he is.

Ultimately I think Purdy gets it, but if he falters and Dak doesn't win the division the voters have a bit of a dilemma because I can't imagine they'd turn to Hurts at this point.

I read an article that when Purdy, Deebo, and the white RB, all finish the game, 49ers are 16-0

I guess Tua or Lamar Jackson could jump in there as well.

The fact that it's mostly considered a QB-only award is ridiculous, if it were me I'd vote for Tyreek unless we somehow end up 14-3.

Purdy and Hurts don't deserve it considering the play style and roster surrounding them. At this point id argue that Dak is the only QB worthy of the award.

That's pretty silly, especially considering it's pretty well established that team record and conference seeding plays a big role in the voting. Like it or not that's reality.

If we're the 5th seed (which is pretty likely) Dak has very little chance.

As for Purdy, his numbers are there (leads the league in Completion percentage, Rating, and YPA, is top 5 in TD and top 7 I think in yards), and they'll most likely be the 1 or 2 seed. Not sure what else he needs to do but it's hard to argue he isn't worthy.

Purdy is a unique situation because Garoppolo put up similar numbers in a system that is clearly well beyond what constitutes most NFL offenses, and that was while playing without the best RB in the league.

Basically I think Purdy is a pure function of the system and if you dropped him into the Giants roster they'd still finish 5-12, so I think giving him the MVP is completely myopic and devoid of any critical analysis of his actual ability beyond the perfect situation he's found himself in.

There's no question in my mind that McCaffrey deserves MVP over Purdy, and Dak as well.

NFL MVP is awarded in February, so the playoffs can’t help but make an impression on people. Of course, most MVP candidates don’t always get a chance to play deep into the playoffs, but if they are neck and neck vs another candidate who does, it can’t help but favor the latter

Y'all are obviously forgetting about the great Sam Howell.

While true, I don't think the voters take system into account. Nor should they. You could have made similar arguments about Montana back in the day for example.

I think McCaffery is a very fair candidate but when is the last time a RB won it? I doubt he'll get much consideration.

I think Purdy is also a fair candidate. Between him and Dak I'd personally lean Dak, but I don't think Dak gets serious consideration if he's the 5th seed.

Hurts on the other hand would offend me if he got it. He's definitely not deserving.

Eh. I don't think it should factor in the playoffs. Otherwise we'd have years where guys like Eli Manning and Joe Flacco might be MVPs and I think that would kind of ruin it because so much weight would be put onto playoff games.

I agree that this is the reality of the situation, I just disagree with it.

It's funny though, if we end up 13-4 or 14-3 and lose the division because of a tiebreaker, while the 49ers also finish with 13 or 14 wins, I could see Dak getting it.

I'd still argue pretty hard that it should be Tyreek (if they also finish with 13+ wins) or McCaffrey, certainly over Purdy but maybe even over Dak as well.

If McCafferey puts up 2,000 total yards why not? RBs used to win it back in the day. McCaffrey rushing and receiving is already over 1400 yards.

In all honesty I think Dak and Ceedee are equally important to our offense. I don't think the machine runs without one or the other. The 49ers are the same way with McCaffrey. Hill is the same way in Miami. We have seen a big shift in the NFL towards the importance of these weapons. So why shouldn't they be in the MVP convo? I know it's not realistic but I say why not?

Agreed. Why shouldn’t CeeDee be in the convo?

Would suck if Purdy was Montana 2.0, cuz yeah, haters called him a system QB back in the day as well.
