Surely they'll at least see what kind of deal Pollard would want first?

Maybe it wouldn't be that bad. As explosive as he is, I think everyone knows he's not a true workhorse back like say a Josh Jacobs.

So you're hoping they'll start thinking like a hired GM?

It would be great to get a short deal done that allows him to make good money for a couple years.

Don't know if Pollard would go for it or what the market for him will be.

But you know Stephen is looking at that ankle injury and broken bone like a fat kid looks at cake.

Goes to show how obtusely optimistic Stephen and the front office can be, especially if it means they can delude themselves into thinking they'll be fine either by slashing salary or not spending on FA's.

Stephen Jones believes Dak Prescott can lead Cowboys to Super Bowl

You can read the article yourself but the most interesting part of it was Stephen's comments on McCarthy and the offense:

"Obviously he's the head coach of this football team, and he made a compelling argument that making him the playcaller was going to help us," Jones said. "I mean that's part of the coaching, be one click better. He feels good about it. He's had a lot of success as a playcaller. And he's observed for three years. I think he's been a super leader in that aspect in terms of having the respect for Kellen and the offensive group working with Dak, that that was the better way of doing it. I think he believes now, although they believe in a lot of things the same, there's that 15-20% that they don't. And I think that Mike just thinks that they'll do more with the way he wants to do it [and] that we'll be a better offensive football team."

Jones believes there will be a noticeable change in the offense, especially considering the Cowboys were largely in the same system from 2007 to '22.

"I just think it's some of it's the fundamentals, how you block it, how you coordinate and marry the run game to the pass game, what your pass game is philosophically, what your run game is philosophically," Jones said. "... I think people will notice. Now, we've been a good offensive football team. That's the scary part. But we just hadn't been able to make the plays when it got right down to it in the playoffs."

Marrying up the run game and pass game to make the blocking look the same is arguably the number one thing that sets offenses like the 49ers and Rams (before they cratered) apart from the rest, definitely glad to hear that being basically the first thing out of Stephen's mouth in terms of the philosophical differences between McCarthy and Moore.

I know damn good and well Stephen has no idea what that means exactly but it's obvious that was emphasized by McCarthy. It's also interesting that he says McCarthy argued to make himself playcaller, so basically it's all on him now.

The decision to get rid of Amari instead of Schultz is the problem if you were wanting to save money...address that issue for once, Jones boys.

It wasn't just the money...

I know that, but it's the only thing they mention.

They want to talk strictly money.

So axing your #1 WR to franchise a TE is moronic...if it was all about $.

I agree with all that, but you can make an even simpler argument for just how clueless Moore could be at times....

Tell me, what is the thinking behind lining up on 2nd short or 3rd and short in a 5 wide, empty backfield formation?

How exactly is it to your benefit to not only take a RB out of the backfield on a situation that is supposed to put the defense at a disadvantage, but also do so with a guy like Zeke that the defense doesn't even have to account for as a pass catcher?

That moron did that countless times over the years and he did it again on that 2nd and 2 vs the 49ers that led to Dak's second pick.

There is no rhyme or reason to it and it was as blatant an example as you can find that Moore didn't really understand both conceptual and situational football.

Good fucking riddance.

I agree and I wouldn't be surprised if that specific play was the straw that broke the camel's back.

You could argue that that play was quite literally the reason we lost the game and it's the perfect microcosm of the failings of the offense basically ever since Garrett was around. Ridiculous play design with little to no situational awareness, and then of course a stupid mistake from Dak.

If we score a TD on that drive and go up 13-6 I think there's at least a 75% chance we win, even without Pollard. Even if we just go up 9-6 going into the half, as opposed to going down 9-6, we're at least 50/50. I highly doubt we would've won at Philadelphia without Pollard but still, that sequence was probably the biggest reason we once again failed to make an NFCC.

We'll see what McCarthy is really worth now because our defense is almost assuredly going to be one of the best in the league.

He might only be the third best RB in free agency. My hope is we stay patient and if he wants 10+ mil let him test the market but keep talks going. Yes you risk losing him but it's not the end of the world if he leaves. Maybe his market ends up in the 4 years 28 mil range. I do think Pollards play style lends to a longer career. 6-7 mil I would do.

Franchising a player coming off an injury is not smart.
