I say again:
Maybe it's time to come to terms with the fact that Jerry really doesn't have his sights set on the Big One. He craves relevance more than anything, and he owns what is arguably the NFL's marquee franchise. KC may have a higher profile for the moment, but year in and year out the Cowboys attract a fan following across a much larger geographic and demographic cross section.

Jerry realizes that a SB win may be a big deal, but if you have a huge, devoted fan base, all he needs is to stay competitive. His team hasn't come close to a SB for 27 years, but they stay in the hunt. And the Cowboys are a huge TV draw, appearing in national games far out of proportion to their success rate.

Relevance. Buzz. Media attention. Marquee games for a marquee franchise. That's obviously all they care about. And why not?
Many of us have echoed the same message for many years. We'll never win anything as long as that redneck snake oil salesman remains above ground. And, even after that putz is 6 feet in the dirt (where he belongs), we'll still have Goof Son to deal with.

Meanwhile the 49ers just got Chase Young for a third round pick to add to that defense.
We are getting lapped by the 49ers and Eagles. This front office doesn’t give a shit
Just saw this a while ago. They get the man for a third rounder. Unless Young is a total bust, Jerry just got punked again.

Not impressed with the Chase Young trade. I'm not trading premium draft capitol for an injury prone underachiever.

I wouldn’t call him injury prone outside of suffering a pretty severe knee injury which I think has taken him a couple years to recover from.

But I wouldn’t have been happy giving up a 3rd for him. A fourth? Sure.

It will be interesting to see if the Niners can jumpstart his career, especially if the guy finally gets 100% back to form.

Tell us how easy.
Tennessee was having by a fire sale. A bag of footballs would’ve likely been good enough to open those discussions. You know it just as well as we do.

Goof doesn’t have the Teflon skin like PT Barnum.

Yep. Been tons of discussions across the interwebz that despite the brave face on keeping Henry they would have traded him for a decent offer. And, Dallas should have thrown something out there because this running game isn’t taking us anywhere. The “brain trust” gambled on Pollard and like usual they were wrong.

Considering Tennessee said they were not trading him unless somebody came in with a crazy offer, I don't see it.

Did he get traded? Nobody had a bag of footballs to spare?

The arrogance of this organization, Jerry mainly, is what irks me.

If you don’t want to improve the team, cool. Most teams don’t trade often. Just don’t be so arrogant as to proclaim you’ve done a good enough job to have this team maxed out with talent.

The “we like our guys” bullshit is retarded. I’m sure they’ve liked their guys most every other year they’ve failed to reach an NFCCG.

I negotiate deals for a living. You always say that no deal will be made unless someone makes a crazy offer. And then a lowball one is made and negotiations suddenly open anyway. Our team has proven to be very poor negotiators, so if Tennessee asked (as an example) for a 2nd, we aren’t strong enough to come back with a counter that has merit. We pull off trades every now and then, but Jerry has always been a piss poor negotiator.

When you couple that with our “GM” not being under pressure to perform and improve the team for fear of losing his job, no real deals are ever made.

The key difference between Jerry and Roseman. One is accountable and not afraid to take a calculated risk to win. The other, well, you know all too well.

I'm not going to say Henry was available but Jerry didn't make the call. He was pretty clear that he wasn't calling anyone. He would field calls but he wasn't going to initiate anything.

So yeah, maybe Henry wasn't available. But I don't believe for a second the Cowboys even checked. Jerry was drinking his Johnny sitting by the phone crying that no one called him, drying those tears with $100 bills.

Well, considering they were in the middle of a fire sale, as you say, and yet they didn’t trade him…. Like I said. I guess nobody else had a bag of footballs, either.

Yeah I mean either he wasn't for sale or no one else in the NFL called about it. Henry still looks good enough for a team to want, so my guess is when teams like the Eagles did call the Titans said no.

Yeah. Just like they said. They were not trading him. Not unless somebody blew them away with an offer well above par.

It's funny. People say you can never believe anything that comes out of Jerry's mouth. Unless it helps whatever shit they have to be crying about that particular week. If it helps their narrative, then his word is gospel.

It’s wise never to trust anything that comes out of any NFL executive’s mouth unless/until something happens. From a trade (or draft) perspective, everything should be considered smoke. Personally, I think Henry (among others) was available, but teams may not have been able to iron out terms. I’d suspect that salary retention was an issue. As we saw with Amari Cooper, it’s (usually) hard to trade a player for higher return compensation after he signs a new contract. It’s even tougher with RBs, since diminishing returns happen much faster.
