I was going to bring that up as well, because I think that was a big part of their plan. Just draft another guy. Nevermind the fact that draft picks are never a guarantee.

The sad part is Tolbert didn't give us one scintilla of hope that he might contribute next season or ever. We should be going into the offseason assuming Tolbert is a complete bust.
Especially at WR. Unless you are spending a premium pick, you might as well forget it as the learning curve is high. Then make it harder that the player you selected has less than elite tools and comes from an underdeveloped program.

The best WRs in the pros tend to be the ones who were correspondingly the most productive in college and the position is in very high demand, so like QB I basically don’t expect those drafted after round two to be great.

Late sleepers rarely develop to be stud WRs.

Yeah I had high hopes for Tolbert. I at least thought he could chip in a mediocre 500 yards or so. But he couldn't do shit. It was like the lights were too bright for him from day one. His most memorable play was lining up 5 yards offsides. I hope that something clicks for him but I'm not relying on him at all. If he could have shown at least something I could hold out hope for development. But nope.

Maybe he will shock us like a Mukuamu who showed nothing as a rookie but I doubt it.

Mukuamu had to work his way and eventually get a shot.

This kid was basically handed the job and he was flopping around like he was completely lost. And it didn't look like the light ever came on.

That Dennis Houston stiff just had to outwork him, it was that easy.

Yeah, he couldn't even show basic function. I think he has a good work ethic. I hope he works his ass off with Dak this offseason and becomes something. But he was beyond just a lost little puppy. I think he has physical tools but maybe he was just going against weak competition.

There wasn't much to go on, but trying to watch him closely when he was out there, my guess on Tolbert was he wasn't tough or physical enough. A couple of times he was supposed to block or set a pick and he almost shied away. That would explain doing nothing on special teams also.

Maybe some day one of our esteemed reporters will actually do some reporting and tell us... but I'm not holding my breath.

Just take all your shitty free agent signings, package all that money together and sign Payne. Don't bother with any other free agents. Sign LVE back up. Pollard back up

Then focus on offense in the draft. Restructure who ever the fuck you need to to accomplish it. Jettison Zeke for every dollar you can to make this happen.

Yep, that would be my plan.

Its bad when a guy drafted at his spot gives you a goose egg on STs. And he couldnt even push Turpin for any return duties.

There was something about what I watched of him that I simply didn't see him do at all and that was get separation.

In his college tape, he is not a blazer, he does not look naturally fast. He is a glider and I just don't know what to expect other than to expect nothing until he shows something. They had better take off the rose colored glasses and not just expect him to blossom next year. We were so bad at WR that he couldn't even get out there is pretty damning.

Yeah, I feel like you called it. I honestly thought he could at least be a Cedric Wilson type. But I'm not even holding out hope for that anymore.

I go into this draft with a different mentality at receiver. We need to stop with this type that we always draft. Go get some real route runners and guys with legit speed. We need to recognize that drafting average size/speed/hands doesn't really give you an impact receiver. Draft some guys with special traits. Special speed, special route running, special jump ball ability. Give yourself something to build off of.

Wilson showed glimpses here and there but we did not take him in the 3rd.

This guy was just completely absent. To me, he looks like our next Stepfret Williams.

I am not certain Payne is worth it, nor would Quinn value him like that.

The DL crews in Atlanta weren't fat guys. Fat Mike had some of those in Raji.

Hankins did well for a short spell.

We'll see.

Do you sign Hankins for another year?

Didn't Seattle have a 320 pound dude play some DE or was that after Quinn? Regardless I don't think Quinn is afraid to adapt and change at all.
