Saying it must be on the coaches simply because you loved his college film is absurd.

Tolbert may or may not work out. We'll see.

But film doesn't show a guy's toughness, desire, work ethic, intelligence, and so forth. Guys with good college film fail in the pros way more often than some people like to admit.

And most of the time it's not on the coaches because then you'd see busts catch on with and excel on other teams, but that sort of thing isn't all that common.

Sometimes, a lot of times even, a guy just doesn't have what it takes.

To be fair he said, “might be”. Also his highlights looked ok but he didn’t seem exceptionally explosive to me. Looked like an above average college player making plays that would be expected at his position.

But what do I know, I’m no Baulding.

I still think he lacked toughness/physicality. When I watched he didn't look like he really wanted to hit or be hit. And if that's true, you aren't on special teams, which makes it impossible to dress as a 4th WR.

From the NFL.com scouting report:

Weaknesses
  • Would like to see better success through catch adversity.
  • Undisciplined drops at times.
  • Can improve deep-ball positioning against physical corners.
  • Could use more fire in his belly on every snap.
  • Gains positioning but doesn't always finish the block.

Yeah this is the biggest problem. You either crack the top 3 or you aren't active on game days. Guys his size are usually return men. But with Vaughn and Turpin I doubt he can compete with them as returners.

This is why guys like Noah Brown stick and are active on game day despite being shit at WR.

Does this include a muff and getting tackled by a kicker in the open field happening again to Turpin? Personally, if we had a qualified PR, I would send him packing.
I think he meant promote him to customer

He can just be our fucking punt returner, Vaughn doesn't have any real experience doing it. I'm sure we can find some way to get by without Josh Ball and only carrying 9 OL on the roster.
I assume Vaughn is the kick returner for sure.

Yeah I think I read an article that Vaughn is working on being a punt returner based on advice from Sproles. Vaughn will be kick returner for sure but the NFL has limited kick returns badly.

For those that do such things, any speculation on this? Good? Bad? Reason?

I think it was an argument gone bad. No other reason to keep it quiet and just try to sneak it in the news.

Maybe he wasn't that good at it? I was assuming the guy was just old as dirt. But I actually don't think he is that much older than me. Graduated college in like 2000.
