Dalton Schultz left in free agency, and the Cowboys never replaced him. Let's get Dak Prescott a talented safety valve here. Mayer is the best all-around tight end in this class; he's not afraid to latch on to defenders and block. Don't discount his receiving upside, either. He had 180 catches for 2,099 yards and 18 scores in three college seasons. He can be an outlet on crossers and hooks, and he'll pick up first downs after the catch. Dallas also has scouted the class' best wide receivers, so keep an eye out if one of the top guys drops.

I thought about a replacement for Ezekiel Elliott here, but Mingo would make an impact on the Dallas depth chart. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound receiver has a great mix of size and speed. He averaged 16.9 yards per reception last season, and he was mostly running short routes. He can break tackles once he gets the ball. He has experience playing both outside and in the slot. This makes two pass-catchers for the Cowboys, and you know Dak Prescott would be thrilled.

Campbell, Avila, Adebawore and Hyatt going within 10 picks of us in the 2nd would be a massive blower.

If Avila or Hyatt fell to that point I'd be looking to move up ASAP, in this scenario I'd have taken Downs or maybe even Charbonnet.

I feel safe to say someone else in this draft available at 26 will have a better career than Mayer. So I say find that guy.

But that's cheating a bit. One pick verse 200 plus guys isn't really fair odds. I agree about it being safe though. I'd rather hit safe at a position other than TE though. Give me a safe guard and I'd be all for it. But based on history, is any TE really a safe pick?

I'd start considering it around 16-18 but I'd be shocked if he makes it that far.

Having an elite DT can just be so devastating for a defense. It's something that you can't really seem to find very easily picking in the late portion of the first round. So if a guy like that was in shooting distance I would be awful tempted to pull the trigger and get him. I'm not giving up a future first. And frankly I don't think I'd risk a first and second to move up (If the guy does become lazy or whatever you've just likely blown the entire draft) but whatever a first and third would get me in terms of moving up, I think I would for the guy. The only thing that makes me nervous is that I don't know how much we have actually talked to him. Sort of like Claiborne when we just sort of blind drafted the dude. I'd be nervous about taking a guy that I don't know if we did all the proper homework on.

I've been thinking the same thing, but Claiborne didn't have the character concerns.

Carter produced, though, even when Travon Walker was supposedly the big guy on the UGA line. When 88 was in the game you noticed the explosiveness was another level.

The wreck fucked his stock up, otherwise he'd be just as likely to be #1 as Travon was.

I hope he slips to us, but the roster relies too much on the draft to trade 1st and 2nd picks to get him.

And I wouldn't package anything more than a third to move up for sure. It's just rare to find a talent like Jalen Carter and even more rare to find it outside the top 5 picks of the draft. If I have a shot at him I'd have to at least think about it. There literally isn't another guy in this draft I would consider moving up for.

Yeah, if that kid fell past Philadelphia you’d be silly not to at least make a few calls

It’s the flip side of draft value… a guy it would normally take multiple first and second round picks and change to move up and get suddenly becomes available for the cost of two first round picks and some change back. You have to consider it.

I mean everyone that works out great isn't Mike Mamula. This isn't a nobody whose stock is purely based on an insane workout. But I also just don't know about him. I thought he was probably a great third round prospect as a guy I thought could be a legit 3 tech in the NFL. I like the guy but in the first I'm probably not doing it. He isn't Kancey where he looked like a bad ass on tape and then put up a badass workout. Adetomiwa Adebawore looked good on tape. Sort of as a DE/DT combo. And then the killer athleticism makes you think there is more potential there. And there could really be. But I don't see enough to roll the dice on what he could become in the first round.

I'll say this about him though, I think I like him more than say Keion White. But I'm also not wanting either in the first round. I'd consider him in the second round though. Add 10 pounds, with that athleticism and I'd train the shit out of him at 3 technique. In the first though he is just too raw to roll the dice on.
