To the point I made last night, insiders are saying that pushing everything to the right one week and eliminating the bye week leading up to the Super Bowl is on the table. If that's a real option the league needs to tell that to teams ASAP because that will definitely impact how they approach this weekend's game.

Under that scenario I assume Bills-Bengals would be a stand alone game and have an entire weekend to themselves. Well that gives all the other playoff teams a bye leading into the playoffs while the Bills & Bengals would have to go into the playoffs without the benefit of extra rest. That doesn't seem fair. Especially when we're talking about high seeds being placed at that type of disadvantage.

That's why I think the smart and easy thing to do would just be able to write the game off as a "no contest". And just award HFA in the AFC by winning percentage.

Maybe it's just me but it's annoying to see the NFL hiding behind Hamlin being hospitalized as the reason they haven't decided what to do with that Bills-Bengals game. IMO, it feels like they are unnecessarily dragging their feet as if the NFL is somehow too small to multi-task.

I think it is more on them trying to play down the fact they are spineless but at the same time realize the lens that is on them.

If anything, the NFL is like any corporate giant.

Put those in high ranking positions under stress, they lose their fucking minds and hide incompetence behind indecision.

That's not fair either though. I don't think there's any fair solution.

Which is why I advocate McDermott and Taylor playing each other in Madden to decide the game.
 
I don't know if this was posted or not but Chris Pronger in hockey was diagnosed with what they are saying happened to Hamlin. Notice a very similar reaction where he skated for a second or two then collapsed. Pronger's appears less severe because he seems like he was awake when they carried him out. But nevertheless Pronger made a full recovery and played again. Hopefully the same happens with Hamlin.

I heard a guy talking about this on the radio a couple of days ago. He said Pronger only missed a couple of games.

I think they're waiting to see what happens this weekend. They're probably hoping that the results of this week's game makes it pointless to finish the Bills/Bengals game, but if the outcome of Bills/Bengals ultimately decides HFA one way or the other I think they'll play it unless something goes south with Hamlin.

Personally, I'm hoping they extend to a week 19, it'd give us a bye but more importantly the Eagles (assuming they get the 1) would be sitting for 2 weekends as opposed to just one and would likely come out rusty in the second round, which is probably at least 50% to be against us.

It would be like sitting everybody in the regular season finale, then having a bye, then playing your first playoff game after several weeks off, which as we all know isn't exactly a recipe for success.

I vaguely remembered it but not the details.

I just read up on and holy shit he played in a couple of days. Turns out it was the playoffs when it happened.

Chris Pronger, a Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman, recalls his 'scary' cardiac event

Pronger was 23 years old and competing with the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference semifinals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 1998 when he was struck on the left side of his chest by a slap shot. Pronger managed to stand up following the impact and took two strides before falling to the ice.

Neither Blues trainer Ray Barile nor team physician Dr. Aaron Birenbaum could find a pulse on Pronger's neck or wrist. Pronger’s lips were blue, and becoming bluer by the second, while his eyes were rolled back into his head. Barile cut Pronger’s jersey and shoulder pads to prepare to perform CPR when, suddenly, he awoke.

“The lights go dark and, all of a sudden, you wake up and I was staring up at the rafters at Joe Louis Arena, looking at retired numbers and banners and what not,” Pronger recalled in a phone interview Tuesday with The Buffalo News. “Kind of turned and glanced over and we had guys crying on the bench, not really knowing what was going on. My equipment was cut open, everything was sliced open with scissors.”

Pronger was rushed to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and diagnosed with commotio cordis, which is a disruption of rhythm that occurs as a result of a blow to the area directly over the heart at a critical time during the cycle of a heartbeat.

Each test that followed indicated there was no risk in Pronger resuming his career. He played two nights later and helped the Blues advance to Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinal series, which they lost to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Red Wings. Pronger appeared in 949 more games, regular season and playoffs, over the 13 years that followed.

I think they also want to buy time to see what happens with Hamlin. If he dies they aren't finishing the game no matter what, which is a bit ridiculous given that both teams are playing this weekend but that's how the league works.

On the other hand, if 3 days from now he's in stable condition you bet your ass they're going to finish it.

we're almost 3 days in, and he's still critical. Doesnt feel very positive.
