This one didn't bother me. Gilmore basically beat him to the spot and kinda of posted him up like we see WRs and TEs do all the time.

You are exactly right. Next year, always next year -- for 27 years.
 
I don't know if you guys realized this, but barring a monumental collapse, we're going to win 10-plus games this year.

That means we're not only going to have back to back playoff seasons, but we're going to have back to back double digit win seasons too.

The last time we won 10-plus games in consecutive seasons?

1995/96.

That's a pretty pathetic stat and quite the indictment of just how poorly this team has been run by the Jones family for damn near 30 years now.

But it's also a nod to the coaching job Mike McCarthy has done to be able to accomplish something that not even Bill Parcells could.

So while he may not be without his flaws, I think it says a lot about the quality that Mike McCarthy brings as a coach to have been able to pull something like this off under the circus tent that is the Dallas Cowboys organization.

Extend his contract and let him run his own damn offense and who knows what else he can do?

McCarthy is a solid coach to be sure. I have been consistently impressed, particularly with how the team deals with injuries.

This is why I have hope for next year even though we won't go balls out in FA to make a run. Assuming we keep Quinn this coaching staff has gotten us over the hump of following up one playoff year with a 8-9 win or worse year for basically the past 15-25 years.

So I feel comfortable projecting success to next year given that we'll barely lose anybody and that the NFC should be down once again. We'll always be left wanting with regard to FA but even without that we should at least be a top 3 team in the conference again next year.

I think it's 50/50 at best but I'll save that conversation for when we know how many openings there will be.

But long story short, I think there will only be 4-5 openings and I'm fairly sure DeMeco Ryans will have passed Quinn over as the top defensive candidate.

Parcells never had a QB except for his last 10 games in Dallas. Think about that for a second.

Other than that, he started moron Quincy Carter, ancient Vinny Testaverde, and washed up Drew Bledsoe.

McCarthy is one of the best coaches in football for sure.

And even with that he's really needed Quinn to come here and be one of the best DCs in football.

You really need a lot to go right for even back to back successful years in this league.

Jerry Jones is 80-whatever years old.

He doesn't have many more seasons to witness.

If he is at all serious about winning he will pay Quinn more than he'd make at whatever head coach job he would get, to stay here in Dallas. Even if that also means he has to extend McCarthy and give him a raise too.

This is why I was so pessimistic heading into this season. Because the Cowboys have rarely had back-to-back strong seasons.
