It feels like I'm in the minority regarding which direction the Bears should go with the first overall pick.

Pretty much everyone is saying they're set at QB and should either trade down or take the best (non-QB) player available. The Bears GM even said as much.

I'm sorry but I just don't view Justin Fields as a QB who is set in stone as the franchise QB. Fields has shown very little as a passer that should make the Bears completely comfortable at the QB position.

They are the most QB starved franchise in NFL history. Why wouldn't you go overboard at the position to increase the odds of finally landing a top QB?

It would be so on-brand for the Bears to pass up a potential franchise QB and go DL.

Totally agree. I think we've seen enough. And, it's pretty likely that Fields' trade value right now is as high as it will ever be.

If there's a QB in this draft that's less of a project even, it's worth it for them to move on. The payoff isn't any bigger for Fields.

The guy has had 2 full seasons to prove himself and I'm still not seeing it.

These days, NFL teams are pushing young QBs to the side who haven't shown anything in 2 years. Surrounding cast be damned.

Hell, they were grumbling about Baker Mayfield going into the 2020 season, and Baker actually had a really strong 2018 season. So he had at least shown them something as a passer. You can't even say that with Fields.
 
Three playoff games this weekend will feature third string QBs (although Purdy is purdy good).
