I would argue that 40 years is not required to understand the game. The fact that upwards of 300 22 year olds enter the profession every single year says it's not rocket science.

Shoot some guys now are jumping into coaching never having played and doing it at the highest level. Like that nerdy dude who was the OC for the 49ers.

Obviously you've never worked 90 hours a week, coaching and breaking down film. I did that for 14 years and I will argue that a 22 year old gifted athlete doesn't know as much as a coach of 40 years.

I'd love to know how Mike McDaniel got to be a coaching intern at the age of 22 and work his way up to now head coach. I only say this because I'm very jealous.
