If we're picking at 25 should we consider him?

He very well might be the BPA at that point and while most would probably be against spending a 1 on a RB after Elliott, there's a massive difference between spending a top 5-10 pick on one and spending a pick in the mid-late 20's on one.

I'd still be at a no. Take one in the second or third. The shelf life is too short.

I like your thinking -- I've been thinking we could/should take one earlier than people think also. I'm not so sure I love Robinson as most people for some reason... maybe I'm just expecting too much. But I do think we need good backs if Dak can't carry the offense and both ours might be gone.

You know who is sneaky good, and this is a late round guy because he's tiny... Deuce Vaughn. Super quick, good vision, and runs harder and tougher than you'd think from his size.

Yea I like Vaughn alot too, he'd be a better fit if we keep Elliott one more year because neither him or Pollard are hammers who can get the tough yards consistently.

I'm not sure where I stand on a RB in the late 1st, I'm generally against it but I also think the timing might make sense if Robinson truly is the BPA, and I generally want to keep our offense run-oriented.

Give me Zach Evans and I'm good.

Too many really great RBs go in the second round or later for me to want to draft a guy in the first. And looking over the RBs who have actually gone in the first round, it's underwhelming what they have done. Dare I say the second round RBs have been better? Give me the Kenneth Walker and Jonathan Taylor types.

I'd much prefer an Olineman or WR. Building the great blocking out and put whoever at RB. As opposed to hoping a RB can create on his own.

I like that RBs are so out of favor now that kind ,of like with centers or inside linebackers, you can sometimes get the best in the whole draft in the late 20s.

Anyway, I want a guy like an Aaron Jones. Someone with both lateral quickness and speed who can make big plays.

It's myopic to break it down to just "first vs. second round", almost all of the top RB's in the league were either high firsts (McCaffrey, Barkley, Elliott previously) or guys who went in the first 10 or so picks of the second (Chubb, Taylor, Henry, Mixon).

Walker went around 40 or so too.

Basically I don't think there's much difference in value between 25 and 40, and the vast majority of the top backs in the league went top 40ish.

There's a few outliers of course (Kamara, Jones, Montgomery) but I think there's enough of a track record there to justify it if Robinson is the BPA in the mid-20s.

I'd prefer an equally rated OL, DL, etc., but I think the whole "first round RB" thing is a bit irrelevant if you're in the mid to late 20s.

That's always bugged me. Rounds are arbitrary. Obviously the #30 player is closer to the #33 player than the #3 one, but the 3 and 30 get lumped together as First Rounders as if they should be of similar ability. It doesn't make sense.

Well, in a contract sense, they are, because you get that 5th year. Which is about a year longer than I'd be willing to keep any rb around.

Not saying I wouldn't take a guy in the late first but I would in the high second. Obviously you're only talking about a slight difference but I also think you kind of have to cut the line somewhere as to who you're willing to use a pick on for a guy who may have 3 or 4 really productive seasons.

I'm really just not a fan of using a first on a guy who is at best a great 3-4 year starter. With a good chance you're also getting a Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Rashad Penny or Sony Michele.

Even Barkley or Fournette? Have they really been guys worth it? Or Najee Harris or Josh Jacob's? RBs just aren't the way to build a team.

That’s my assessment as well. If a RB is the BPA at our spot and there isn’t another position of need at comparable value, then we should try and trade the pick rather than box ourselves into a 4-year player.

Yea there's obviously cautionary tales the other way but what it comes down to is, do you value the running game enough to take a RB that high and roll the dice that you end up with a Chubb, Taylor, etc. as opposed to Harris or Jacobs?

Although don't look now but Jacobs is at the top of the league in rushing yards.

At any rate, it's pretty clear that the majority of the elite RB's are taken very high or in that early 2 range, so if Robinson is the BPA in basically that same range I'd be fine going that way because philosophically I think that's how the offense needs to be oriented.

I'm not arguing that we 10000% need to take him though, I'd be more than fine trading down and obviously would prefer an equally rated OL or DL.

And it's not that I don't like Robinson. I think he is a really good RB. Would love to have him on the team. But I still wouldn't take him in the first. If you're building your offense with a first round pick at RB I think you're doing it wrong.

I really thought he would be a good hire for them but it appears he is losing the team.

I love the fact that his win/loss record is actually worse than what Ken Sumlin’s record was.

It doesn't help that he's running an offense that Bear Bryant would be proud of.

To those who follow it... How high is TCU's Quentin Johnson going to be taken? He's pretty impressive at 6-4 and fast, but I don't know how he compares to the other WRs this year.
