No doubt. Current narrative is it was all Brady, I personally believe it was both. I don't think either will have a much success as they did together, but they are both old now in their professions.
 
Belichick is a defensive specialist. He has nothing to do with Brady or the others.

It was a fantastic throw, but I do tend to agree. That's very high risk and I don't think it was at a spot in the game where high risk made sense. I'd probably feel better seeing that go to Cooper than Lamb for now.
 
Couple of random thoughts after re-watching the game:
  • Diggs basically shadowed Evans, including in the slot, and barely gave up anything. He wasn't in pure man all the time of course but he was clearly following him across formations. It'll be interesting to see if this is a strategy they use every week against all types of number 1 WR's (i.e. smaller, faster/shiftier types) or if they just do it against bigger/physical, but slower guys like Evans. Has to get the aggressive handsy stuff in check though, he's going to get flagged a bunch this year if he keeps it up.
  • We literally do not have an NFL-caliber interior pass-rusher on the roster right now. Guys like Odighizuwa and Urban looked solid against the run but offer almost nothing in terms of pass rush. This isn't new, and Odighizuwa has room to improve into one, but as the roster stands today there isn't a starting NFL-caliber guy. Gallimore is probably our best hope for one this year.
  • Parsons didn't have any highlight plays but he was solid throughout. Quick to fill/close against the run, solid in man coverage and even had a few decent rushes against Wirfs. The only nitpick is that his aggressiveness gets him out of position when he's in zone, opening up passing windows behind him as he crashes down, but that's very minor, very correctable, and ultimately something I'm fine living with given the rest of his game and the type of impact he can make around the LOS.
  • Thank God Jaylon Smith is barely playing.
  • Biadasz was fine overall, people seem to think he stunk because he got dump trucked by Vea once and messed up like 2 snaps but over 70+ plays he was solid. He'll probably never be an elite center but he at least looks like an average to above average starting player, which is a win with a 4th.
  • Lamb is not going to supplant Cooper as our top WR this year. He's a future Pro Bowler but the drops have to stop and his route running/tree is still pretty basic. Kind of scary to think that he could put up about 1400 yards/10 TD's with still quite a bit of room for improvement though.
  • And with that in mind, anybody thinking about cutting Cooper after this year can fuck right off. Gallup isn't that guy and Lamb still has lots to improve. When the chips are down, Prescott looks to Cooper, just like he did for basically the entire 2nd half. The only scenario where it might make any sense is if we can get Gallup on a reduced deal (like 8-10/year), and want to reinvest some cap dollars towards the defense. Of course that will never happen because the front office doesn't actually look towards FA to find impact players, so we can revert back to fucking right off.
  • Anthony Brown was obviously complete shit in the first half but I don't think he gave up a catch in the 2nd half, fucked up by not keeping Gronk inbounds on the last drive though. We aren't going to face a WR trio like that again though, and while Brown is mostly an average player, I feel fine starting him for the rest of the year with the hope that Joseph can take over at some point.
  • Prescott was nearly immaculate, even the INT he threw was a perfectly placed pass and arguably his best throw of the night, but he cost us on the last drive of the 1st half. 2nd and 10 on the 20 turned into 3rd and 22 on the 32 because he took a pretty poor sack where he basically scrambled into Barrett who was well blocked and then didn't throw it away early enough.
  • Our TE's are really below average at best blockers, and it's not even just a lack of strength/bulk at the POA, but a lack of awareness in space like on the 3rd down Elliott run near the goal line that should've been a TD to start the 2nd half. Elliott probably should've gotten it in but an NFL TE should not be getting beat that badly on a block (or lack thereof) in that situation.
  • The only difference between what Gallup did in the opener last year against the Rams and what Godwin did this year is that Ramsey flopped around like a little baby bitch last season.
  • Even though we barely ran the ball I thought Elliott looked a little quicker with some more burst to get to the corner. He's definitely already peaked but I think he can put up about 1200-1400 yards/10 or so TD's while averaging around 4.5 YPC.

We just assume he'll grow out of it but some guys never do. TO never did, and Godwin is still dropping big passes in Year 5. Was he like this at OU?

Not sure, I think he'll be a Pro Bowler either way, but the drops/route running could be the difference between being like a top 10ish WR in the league vs. top 3-5.
 
I also thought Dorance Armstrong looked pretty solid as a rotational guy, should've had a strip sack on Brady and got close a few other times. He'll never be a starter but if he can be a dependable 3rd edge rusher that's more than I could've hoped for about 6 months ago.

Noticed Lewis slipping on the replay and wondered how much impact it had. I can definitely see the argument that Kazee had help over the top but it looks like man with 2-deep safeties, so while he theoretically had help over the top that could've been there, he still got beaten badly by several yards.

I still feel comfortable starting Brown though, he's generally been a decent CB and he got roasted by the GOAT QB and a WR who would be a future HOF'er if he hadn't lost his mind, it happens.

While the mouth breathers will use this play to argue that we should trade up to the top 5 for Stingley what is equally, if not more at fault, is that pristine inner pocket with nobody around that let's Brady take 3 steps forward from the back of his drop because we have Brent Urban and Carlos Watkins at DT.
