That's the reverse angle of the play we were looking at before. Somehow it makes Jaylon look even worse. He just loves to stand and bounce flat footed, so that then he has no chance when he's blocked. If he attacks that guard early he has a good chance to blow up the play.

And his play recognition is awful.

From this angle LVE doesn't look great on the play either.

That's true. Plus, the Chargers couldn't game plan for Parsons (they didn't know where he'd line up and they didn't have film on him at DE).

Still, as you said, extremely impressive.

Bones wants to be a star. He is the fucking special teams coach though and needs to know his place.

I think you are exactly right about that. He'd rather play long-shots than the percentages. He's the kind of guy who loses his shirt in a poker game.

LVE doesn't look great but at least I understand what he is doing. It's not really his gap and the blocker is already there. He goes under and he misses the play. So he is trying to sort of handle his blocker and shed it to make a play. Jaylon literally just sees a blocker and runs away. It's his gap responsibility and does the inexplicable. It's like he would rather make a tackle 10 yards down the field than to stick his nose in there and make a stop.

Not making an excuse for LVE but that happens to LBers all the time. What Jaylon did, yikes, that's some shit you don't see out of other players.
 
There's a term some people use for NBA players, "irrational confidence", and it generally refers to bench/role players who just come in and start gunning and keep gunning whether they've made 5 in a row or missed 5 in a row.

There's a time and place for guys like that, within individual games as well as based on how certain teams are built, but you can only use them in small doses.

That's what Fassel reminds me of, and unfortunately that's not what you want out of basically any football coach, let alone a ST's coach. McCarthy definitely needs to reign him in.

When it comes to special teams I want a coach who doesn't fuck up. Have a kicker make his kicks, a punter who kicks the ball far and set up good return blocking.

Beyond that if I'm down a couple scores, yeah go for a big play. Otherwise stay in your fucking lane and let my offense go win the game.

Special teams is like flushing a toilet. You really shouldn’t ever notice it when it is working properly. But if it keeps bringing shit up it’s time to take a look at it.

Yeah he wants to be the reason we win. But in the end if he keeps going down this path he is more likely to be the reason we lost. And his press conference honestly made me feel worse about it. I don't think he has learned his lesson at all. At least Mike McCarthy can recognize with his clock management that it was a fuckup at the end of the game and he should have done better. Garrett/Fassell would have come out and said, I trust my field goal kicker. I knew he would make it from 60+. That's just a recipe for disaster as the season goes on.

Yea, like I said, a time and place. For a team like the Skins who have a middling offense and generally rely on their defense to win close games, Fassel's approach would make a lot more sense.

For a team that has an explosive offense that can go up and down the field with ease, but a middling defense that can only get so many stops in any given game, you don't need those halfassed risks that puts the defense on the field again and takes the ball out of the offense's hands.

I hate Jerry's blathering 99% of the time but I'm actually glad he called out Fassel taking unnecessary risks, hopefully it'll make this giggly idiot think twice before faking a punt from the 22 yard line.

Makes you wonder how Bones ever got such a good reputation in the first place. Was it just that he took those crazy risks under Fisher and they worked out and got him a lot of pub?
