2021 Season, Week 2 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cowboys @ Chargers | 09/19/21

I think he's proving to be a great game planner and a solid playcaller.

I like him better at the former than the latter, but it's clear at this point that he's one of the game's brighter offensive minds and he's only going to get better.

And if a team calls to offer him a head coaching gig next year, what do you do? Let him walk? Offer him the highest OC contract and hope he stays? Or, do you can McCarthy and promote him to HC? Because he’s going to draw interest from teams as a head coach much sooner than later.

I let him walk, I think he has done a decent job so far but no way in hell does he have enough experience to be a HC

I definitely don't make him the HC.

Now, let's say the Cowboys have a really good season and the offense looks truly elite at the end of the season?

I make him a lucrative offer to remain the OC and hope he accepts.

Yeah McCarthy is an offensive guy. I offer him big money and if he leaves I don't panic.

Sup ladies.

This. Seems like JG part deux but it is what it is. Moore needs more seasoning anyway.

I take my chances and let him walk probably.

I think the best way to approach things is to evaluate each guy on their own merits.

The only way I get rid of McCarthy is if I don't think he's good enough. That should be determined by results on the field and not whether or not we'll otherwise lose a well-regarded assistant.

As for Moore, being a good coordinator doesn't necessarily translate to being a good HC. Maybe he will be, and I think we'll likely find out here or elsewhere eventually.

But I'd hate to get into a Garrett / Wade situation again where we're undermining the HC with an obvious heir apparent in waiting.

Let the HC be the HC and the coordinators be the coordinators. Jimmy Johnson had good coordinators and no one thought we maybe should fire him for Wanstadt or Norv.

If we don't think McCarthy is good enough why are we wasting our time? Just make the change now.

Otherwise, follow through with the coach you hired.

Worst case scenario is Moore goes elsewhere and is a good HC and meanwhile McCarthy fails here. Even if that happens, so be it. Moore wouldn't be the only good HC left. Find another one.

We need to stop with this nonsense.

The Ravens running game scheme is legit, they literally got castoffs and didn't miss a beat

Yep, look at how great a DC Wade is but he's a terrible HC

So I don’t really understand the McCarthy thing. When Romo was here he ran the 2 minute offense period. In that situation Dak should have been doing the same. Not that I blame him as he obviously doesn’t have that power. Either way, there needs to be some changes in how they handle these situations as we absolutely shoudln’t have made our kicker kick a 56 yarder to win with that much time left.

Apparently the game clock went out and McCarthy couldn't see how much time was left. Once it went under 17 seconds they didn't want to risk someone being tackled in bounds by using the timeout at that point.

Also Apparently one of our guys ran off the field and wasn't supposed to. So it prevented us from running another play quickly.

There is an article about it already. So yeah a player fucked up and there was an issue with the stadium clock. Not making excuses but it does explain a lot.

If true, that explanation makes up for the mismanagement. Sloppy on the field, but at least not a coaching brain fart

I don't think he is ever getting out of that hole.

Fuc, man, attack the goddamn LOS

He’s making these tackles 5 yards past by occupying the lead blocker and trying to dance around. Take the lead blockeron and clog the hole

If that's what truly happened, then that makes me feel much better because I'd hate to think our staff thinks settling for 56 yard FGs is smart.

I agree, but we all know that people will be clamoring to keep him at all costs if teams start inquiring about him. I agree that he isn’t ready, and I’m gun shy about promoting another hotshot OC after what the inbred mouth breathers forced us to accept with Red Ball.

Moore seems more like an oc than hc to me. Was kind of unimpressed with him on Hard Knocks.

Apparently the best thing he has going for him is Dak loves him, going back to when he was still playing and helped Dak learn the offense, etc. (It's almost hard to remember Moore played QB here now.). So no telling what Jerry would do in the name of Dak Friendly.
