None of these teams with young QB's are hiring Quinn, they're going to go after exciting offensive-minded guys who they hope can mold their QB's, guys like Daboll, Hackett, Leftwich, etc.

That is insane. Bones!
It is. I bet that blocked punt for a TD moves us up even more in the DVOA to #2 or even #1.

The blocked kicks plus Anger have been amazing. Has to be the best special teams since the Jimmy days, right? Or maybe even longer than that.

I'm not convinced Jacksonville is a bad job. They've got Trevor Lawrence, some excellent 2022 draft picks, and the bar is low - you'd be following a terrible failure. Ownership has reason to show patience. The need to develop Trevor Lawrence gives an offensive minded coach an advantage, but at the same time, Jacksonville needs someone with savvy who can help build the organization. Quinn could make a lot of sense and it'd be a great challenge for him. Much would depend on who he could get as OC.
Jax will probably be looking for a younger offensive minded coach in order to develop Lawrence. I'd be shocked if they targeted a DC as their next HC

The Bills guy who developed Josh Allen seems like he would be a perfect fit.

Yep. Some of the best coordinators in NFL history never

Jacksonville is almost a lock to hire Leftwich after this whole Meyer debacle.

It just makes too much sense, he's one of the most promising young offensive minds in the league, comes endorsed by Brady, just won a Super Bowl, you get the extra draft picks or whatever for hiring a minority, and the cherry on top is that he'd be a massive PR win as a former fan favorite player.

But aside from that specific opening I'd be shocked if we lost Quinn, I just can't see the Raiders, Vikings, Bears, etc. opting for a guy like him.

I don't get the Leftwhich love. He is basically just riding the coattails of Brady in my opinion. I don't think his offense will be much away from Brady. What they did in 2019 before Brady wasn't impressive to me.

A lot of it comes from Arians' endorsement of Leftwich before they ever got to Tampa. They had a statistically productive offense with Winston before Brady got there, so that's something, and then of course won the Super Bowl last year.

I don't think Leftwich is some amazing whiz kid but if you're a shit team looking for new leadership he profiles as the type of guy you'd gamble on.

Yep, 100% Leftwich gets a HC job next year.

I think he'll get a HC job too, just another reason why I think the absolute worst case scenario is that we lose one coordinator, and in all likelihood we'll probably keep both unless we go on a big playoff run (in which case, so be it).

I don't think we lose either of them even with a deep playoff run. Jerry will pay up. And, I don't give a damn if he pays Quinn more than what a lot of HCs make. Just keep him.

There may only be 4 openings (Vikings, Bears, Raiders, Jaguars), I'm saying 5 because I assume one of these 50/50 ones (Panthers, Texans) will open up, but even then 5 isn't many and I feel like Eberflus would he way more appealing to a team that wants a defensive guy than Quinn.

And even in a worst case scenario where we lose him, we can just hire Zimmer who would make for an awesome DC.

Agreed that Leftwich to Jacksonville makes a ton of sense.

Why not Quinn to the Raiders though? I could see it.

It's just hard to imagine them going with another "retread" type after Gruden, even if Gruden's tenure didn't end for performance reasons. The Raiders are probably the most likely though since they aren't really grooming a young QB like the Jags/Bears, and the Vikings probably want to go in a completely different direction from a defensive-minded HC after Zimmer.

But even still, I'd imagine that their weird Davis-spawn owner wants to make a bit of a splash with a big name/hot shot type of hire, and Quinn isn't that. Bienimy would make the most sense in that it'd hurt the Chiefs, he's been a big name that everyone has wondered why he hasn't gotten a shot yet, and there is also the PR minority angle after all the Gruden stuff.

There are two different questions:

1) What should Shahid Khan do?

2) What will Shahid Khan do?

Kahn is the guy who hired Meyer, which clearly Kahn shouldn't have done. In another words, the answer to "should" is not always the same as the answer to "will."

Kahn was deeply embarrassed by Meyer. It would not be surprising if a guy with an owner's size ego placed a premium on hiring an experienced candidate who has a demonstrated low risk of causing personal embarrassment. Quinn is successful, has experience, and is a class act. I don't know what Kahn will do, but Quinn would not surprise me.

It'd surprise me, I get the angle you're selling but Meyer was clearly a byproduct of Khan wanting to be flashy and aggressive, it'd shock me if he swung to the completely opposite side of the pendulum and went with a low-key, professional, "do your job" type.

Someone like Leftwich makes way more sense, he has the flash (Brady/Super Bowl/former Jaguar player) but also the substance you refer to in terms of being highly respected in NFL circles. Not to mention everything they do will be to maximize Lawrence and hiring someone like Leftwich just makes way more sense in that regard than someone like Quinn.

ESPN's power rankings:

3. Dallas Cowboys (11-4)
Previous ranking: 4

Non-QB MVP:
LB Micah Parsons

While a case could be made for Trevon Diggs, Parsons has done more to transform the Cowboys' defense. Parsons leads the team in sacks, has made key plays in key moments and has dominated at the line of scrimmage and off the ball. And to think, the Cowboys were disappointed they couldn't get either of the top cornerbacks available in Jaycee Horn or Pat Surtain II. That they were able to trade back and still get Parsons should be viewed as a coup. He should be a lock selection for the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and also should be one of the top contenders for the Defensive Player of the Year. -- Todd Archer

And another random thought, but for teams who want to go with a defensive guy, Eberflus is the way sexier hire with all the pub he and the Colts are getting.

They were disappointed because most of our brass are CB-obsessed idiots.
