... There is a group of prominent and wealthy Baylor alums that are pushing Art Briles' candidacy. Bob Simpson, the co-owner of the Texas Rangers, is involved. There's talk that this group would follow up a Briles hire with a substantial financial investment/donation. There are Texas Tech stakeholders that support a Briles candidacy to varying degrees, but also major stakeholders that are adamantly against it. There is a meeting about this situation set for tomorrow.

... Texas Tech is talking with Jeff Traylor this week, possibly as early as today. Agents connected to other potential candidates view this as Traylor's job to turn down at this point.

... We believe Texas Tech has already talked to Sonny Dykes on some level.

... Mike Leach has spoken with people connected to Texas Tech's search about the head coaching vacancy

I think he'd be a good coach for you guys and I'd like to see him get another chance.

All those names, doesn't Traylor kind of seem, meh?

Traylor appears to be the top choice. He interviewed today in SA. Legendary Texas HS coach has UTSA undefeated. A lot of people like him a lot but I have no idea. Total crapshoot.

Yeah I mean no offense, maybe he is a good coach but he doesn't have much history at the collegiate level. He basically has half a year as a good college coach. Former Texas Longhorn assistant though, so there is that.

But yeah it's a crap shoot. Maybe he is a really good coach and you're just getting him before his name becomes too hot for Texas Tech to have a shot at any longer. It's kind of a Matt Wells like lack of production beyond one season.

I don’t disagree at all.

Coming back to this because I was working and didn't have much time to reply. Traylor is a highly regarded Texas coach. His Texas HS ties are very deep, which is one ingredient needed to be successful in Texas. He was named recruiter of the year by his peers. TCU is close to firing Patterson and Traylor is their #1 choice w/Dykes being #2. That is why Wells got the ax early.

Anyhoo, I have no idea if any of this is enough but Traylor isn't meh to mid level Texas teams.

I did notice that, sounds like he is a great recruiter. Should be interesting to see if that pays off. Recruiting is so important but the evaluation process of these kids is even more important in my opinion. If you can pick out the right players it's more important than having a top 25 recruiting class at the end of the day.

But I'm an Iowa fan so maybe that's why I think that. We never get more than a handful 4 or 5 star guys. But we turn a lot of 2 and 3 star guys into NFL players.

SMU and Sonny Dykes reach a 7 year deal in response to interviewing for the Tech job.

I have a gut feeling Texas Tech is going to beat Oklahoma tomorrow.

They'll probably have a little extra energy in them after their coach was fired. Plus Oklahoma's defense is trash. They couldn't even slow down Kansas' offense.

I think TT stun the Sooners, something like 33-28.

I think you need to add 20 to each team

Have the same feeling. We are way overdue. We'll lose at least a couple down the stretch unless they are able to finally shift into gear.

That makes one of us. Tech may have some energy early but I highly doubt they can finish it out.

As a Mississippi State fan, I'd like to see Leach move on. I don't care for his offense. Too much dink and dunk for me.
