I'm fairly sure the guy hasn't ever had a preseason performance that made people really stand up and take notice in 3 years, and that's with him being basically the unchallenged backup for at least a year or two.

His rookie preseason performance was pretty damn good but it's gotten worse from there.

Yeah our Dline may be better though. I think DT has been massively upgraded.

But I also love all 4 of our defensive picks.
 
Cooper Rush just doesn't have it. This amounts to roster churn so long as they hold fast that Colt McCoy is far better and Rush should never see the field.

If they are seriously thinking about developing and playing him into McCoy's role... it's popcorn time

The draft picks were great but who knows how long it'll take to get acclimated, especially without a real offseason.

I think the interior of the line will be good, but we may need a whole lot of smoke and mirrors to generate a pass rush. Especially if we can't count on Smith and Gregory.
 
It's November 2023, Joe Judge has just been fired in the middle of his 4th season after starting 3-6 and having failed to make the playoffs over his first 3 seasons. The Giants reluctantly exercised the 5th year option on up and down QB Daniel Jones who has struggled to live up to the expectations of being the 6th overall pick. The media turned on him 2 years ago but the organization didn't want to fold their hand just yet, but in a lost season and having just fired their coach they're thinking about the future and are resigned to having to start over with a new coach and QB.

Jason Garrett, the only coach on staff with any experience as a HC is the interim coach. He finally gives in to the media pressure and admits that Jones is not the future. Knowing how fond Giants ownership is of him he wants someone he can trust starting at QB as he attempts to right the ship and possibly position himself for the permanent position, someone who knows the playbook inside and out and will play within himself without taking unnecessary risks.

Poe and McCoy are a lot better than what we had. At least to start with. Gallimore is nice depth too.

And if Poe stays healthy for the entire season... holy shit

True.

I remember Parcells started him in one of the preseason games over Bledsoe and it raised a lot of eyebrows because it wasn't the throwaway 4th preseason game.

I honestly can't think of a series of "wow this guy may be pretty good" moments from Rush during the preseason. With Dak it leapt off the page at you during the preseason, well before Romo was injured. Same with Russell Wilson back in 2012 when he clearly outplayed Matt Flynn who was Seattle's prized FA that year.

So yeah, other than a nice throw here and there, Cooper Rush has largely been trash.

I completely forgot that Larry Brown made a huge INT in that game that practically put the game away.

Favre was carving up the Cowboys defense and was on a roll. Packers were down 31-27 and driving with about 8 minutes to play when Brown stepped in front of a WR to pick off the pass to snuff out the drive.

When you consider that big play coupled with the 2 INTs in the Super Bowl, it makes it a little more understandable why the Raiders handed him that large contract in 1996.

It's funny because I was very young at the time but one of the only things I remember vividly about that game was that INT because Favre seemed unstoppable most of the game and I just remember thinking to myself, "yea, fuck this guy, get out of here" after that Brown INT.

Or whatever the 10 year old equivalent of that thought would be.

It was almost to a point of hubris where they didn't care if their opponent knew what they were doing, they were going to do it, execute it perfectly and win. Unfortunately this isn't the 1950's and coordinators know how to beat you if they know what you're doing. This stuff only works when you have Larry Allen or some other out of this world talent that you can't beat.
 
Jason Garrett's only NFL worldview is based on those 90s teams who took pride in defenses knowing what they'd run and not being able to stop it.

The problem is that was a historically great team, there was no cap and it was literally 30 fucking years ago.

It's astounding to me how closed minded and unimaginative Garrett is.

I think youre right. i feel that way about the offseason as well. I don't recognize these moves, this draft.... it's kinda stunning.

That was a great listen. It gives you a nice peek into the ass backwards coaching philosophy of Garrett and his staff. And mind you, this isn't some player like Dez who has an axe to grind. Iloka is just giving us honest and unfiltered feedback about what he observed during his short stay in Dallas.

This also pisses me off because I've always been of the opinion that the Cowboys rosters have been just as good as most of the teams advancing to conference championship games and Super Bowls but we've been constantly handicapped when it comes to coaching and gameday strategy.
