Yea he's describing Chaisson to a tee, that's why I was much more open to him once I started considering that we very well may be running a defense that's constantly toggling between 3-4/4-3.

It's also exactly how I envisioned Watt being used, at least early on. Base SAM and moved around in nickel/dime as an edge rusher/blitzer. But McClay said you don't draft a SAM LB in the first so here we are.

I would expect to see some 3-3 defense with a guy like Chaisson able to move around. If we drafted him that is.

Same, our nickel/dime pass rush could be nasty with Lawrence on one edge, McCoy or Crawford on the interior, Smith or Gregory on the other edge and Chaisson floating around.

I also think Baun or Uche would fit the role really nicely, although they're more LB than DE while Chaisson is more DE than LB in my opinion.

This type of stuff just baffles me.

Clearly the Jones' are no football masterminds, but I think Stephen Jones at least possesses the sort of knowledge of the game that you would expect from the average fan. I'm sure he, and even Jerry, could see the types of things that other teams were doing that Dallas was not and never did under Garrett.

Stephen Jones has made so many of these types of comments since McCarthy was hired that it makes it obvious to me that they were well aware of just how much everyone else was ahead of them in terms of X's and O's and gameday coaching.

So if they knew this all along, why the hell did they allow Garrett to waste the careers of so many homegrown, talented players?

It doesn't make sense.

I think Jerry and his emotional attachment was a big part of it.

The whole drawn out weeklong cloak and dagger bullshit saga in getting rid of him speaks to that, it was similar to how the Romo retirement played out, which was another "emotionally invested Jerry" type of scenario.

Im sure this one was maybe the hardest for Jerry; he had so much invested in Garrett. And for it to fail in classic Garrett fashion was probably gut wrenching for the old bastard.

Marinelli said it, McClay just went all 'company man' and co-signed it.

It speaks to the fact that the highest levels of team management really have no plan at all with this stuff. They bring people in and then basically go along with anything and everything that person tells them.

It clearly was. He was practically balling in public when reality finally slapped him in the face.

you would think it was like firing an icon or something. You know, like Tom Landry.

In Jerry's mind, that's what it was. He always envisioned Garrett as 'his Landry'. His discovery that would lead the Cowboys to greatness, and years of Championships. Where ultimately, Jerry could not only get credit for winning titles without Jimmy, but he could show the NFL how much smarter he was, by unearthing this 20-year gem head coach on everybody.

Clearly, Jerry was wrong about Garrett, and he realized that, and the fact that he wasted over a decade of his life and this franchise's time and money in finding that out. That's a tough pill to swallow, especially for someone used to getting their way in life. And that's why Jerry did anything and everything he could to try to make it work out before realizing the inevitable.

Ironically, I think Jerry found it much easier to fire Landry than Garrett. It's hilarious to think he really honestly thought Garrett could ever rise to the level of a Landry or a Johnson or a Parcells. What a horrendous gaffe, from a dipshit owner.

Marinelli said it, McClay just went all 'company man' and co-signed it.

No McClay literally told me that with nobody else around so there wasn't much of a reason to lie, he was more on board with Taco than people like to remember because it's easy to scapegoat Marinelli.

That's just one anecdote but even guys like Broaddus came out during last season and said McClay was on board with it, and I think McClay admitted as much on some radio interview.

I have no doubt that it was close and Marinelli was ultimately the deciding factor but the idea that Watt was way higher and Marinelli just strong armed everybody else isn't what happened.

Luckily for true Cowboy fans, Father Time has big plans for crying, reminiscing, I'm smarter than everyone else, overly loyal Jerruh. Stephen may not be much smarter football wise than daddy, but he doesn't seem to be so emotionally invested on pet guys like Jerry.

I agree. Stephen gets much less emotionally attached. But, at the same time, I'm not a huge fan of Stephen's negotiating tactics.
