Watching the Tony Romo A Football Life on NFLN right now and seeing Garrett makes me hate him even more by how much talent he wasted

I still can’t bring myself to watch it. While I know it is a big if in regards to health, there isn’t a soul on planet earth that will ever convince me that Romo wouldn’t have got that 2016 team to the NFCCG.

I don't see any reason to watch it.

Fact is, Romo was just as culpable as Garrett was for that failed era.

There were plenty of his individual mistakes you can look back on.

Romo had his own level of accountability.

I feel very comfortable watching his failures and not blame it all on Garrett.

- In 2015, Romo gets injured in Week 2.
- He returns in Week 11 and throws 5 INTs in two games. Gets injured and out for year.
- In 2016, even with limited playing time Romo doesn’t make it to the regular season with preseason injury.

3 major injuries in, what, a span of 6 games played? I know you said his health is a big if, but it’s more of a Bradie bottle lock.

If Romo does regain starter role in ~Week 11 of 2016 season, you think he’d last another 7 games? I think he gets Apollo Creed’d before the playoffs start.

Let’s just be happy he’s making more money now and doesn’t have to sit by Jim Nantz in a wheelchair.

He definitely made his share of mistakes. Too bad he had literally no guidance outside of his first three seasons.

It’s a popular rationalization and sure he had suffered fluke injuries.

That OL, Dez, and Zeke were rolling, protecting Dak at a very high level.

Without a doubt we were driving our passing game in second gear and still crushing it. I think with Romo we see an ending closer to 2014 and a real shot at the NFC title

Lets not forget to point that blame at Jerry as well. The biggest reason why Garrett was allowed to hang around for a decade.

I feel like aside from Aikman and a very small group of older media members, Jerry got a pass for his role in allowing a dud like Garrett to hang around for so long.

I'm glad that members of the local media and former players started publicly calling Garrett out for wasting all the Pro-Bowl/All-Pro/Hall of Fame talent that was handed to him.

Exactly. Romo’s mental meltdowns were well documented. It’s why I hated having him as our QB. He couldn’t be trusted because his decision making skills were terrible.

Romo got hurt behind that same OL. And the hit that put him out in that preseason game vs Seattle wasn't even a vicious hit.

No matter how great an OL is playing the qB is going to take hits at some point and Romo could no longer withstand those hits. The guy's body just gave out on him.
 


Look at this.

I bet Dak has taken at least 20 hits worse than that.

It's irritating getting into these "what if" discussions about 2016 because it always leads to a bit of Romo bashing. I like the guy and thought he was a damn good QB but the fact is he was a bit hit or miss in big games.

Which is why I think it's silly to assume that inserting him as QB in 2016 would have given the Cowboys a better chance to win. Over a full decade Romo was never able to elevate this team past the Division Round. But I'm supposed to assume that 2016 would have been different? Sorry....I can't make that leap of faith. Especially with that redheaded retard as his head coach.

I always hate what-if discussions on literally any topic. Up to and including "re-drafts" where these idiots go back and rehash a draft.

I'm certainly not absolving Jerry in anything. Just think it's funny when people say he's such a problem, then talk about all the Pro-Bowl/All-Pro/Hall of Fame talent Garrett was handed. Yeah, yeah... I know. Jerry had nothing to do with it. Still kinda funny, tho.

Talent acquisition has been much better the past decade. There's no debating that. I think the area where he's still holding the team back is how he's interfered with how his coaches run the team. You can also point to the types of coaches he's hitched his wagon to and how nepotism and personal relationships impact too many important decisions.
 
Romo was divisive and controversial for years. Fans were split on him just like they are on Dak.
Romo put up some very impressive numbers during the regular season. But come playoff time he never lifted the team to the next level. IMO, looking back, I just can't say he was ever the QB I thought he was. To me, if he was truly a top QB he would have found ways to win in the postseason. And all of that can't be placed on Garrett's shoulders.

The same people that bitched because Romo took too many chances are the people now bitching because Dak doesn’t take enough. Fans are fickle dumbasses sometimes.

It’s bad enough if you have difficulty building a talented team. At least you have hope that you get lucky with draft picks and make a run.

For us, it’s worse. We achieved a commendably talented team and still our leadership inhibited this team from accomplishing shit.

I certainly am not in the camp that Romo was without fault, but at that stage in his career, he seemed to have a lot of the turnover problems under control. I just think he gave us a much better chance to win. I doubt they go down multiple scores in that GB game to start it off with Romo.
