This may be a true test of just how much power McCarthy has. You know Jerry wants his boy back.

I’m torn. From an on the field perspective, he provides nothing. From a leadership perspective he provides...nothing. At least nothing we’ve seen that has made a tangible impact on a team that has never had much in the way of guts. And he seemed to be very much aligned with Garrett, though I don’t fault a player for supporting his coach.

So nevermind, i’m not torn. Get him out of here.

I love Witten, but it's time to move on.

He kept Jarwin off the field this past season, and it can't continue to happen.

He's close to becoming the team leader in touchdown receptions (one behind Dez). That's probably what motivates him, but you can't let the pursuit of an individual record hurt the team.

Same dilemma as Eli...

Stature = Starter
Skill set = Backup

Fortunately, for us, money is not part of that equation.

I’m sure if we had actually had some success in the last 25 years, I would be more sentimental and appreciative of his career right now, but I want a f’n Super Bowl, so he can go.

Bingo.

Witten talked about this on the Rich Eisen show. He said he's leaning towards playing another year, and while it would be nice to finish his career in Dallas he is realistic and realizes he might have to consider playing elsewhere.

I'm fine with moving on from Witten at this point, but I'm not exactly lamenting not seeing more Jarwin. And I like Jarwin but he is what he is.

I don't need steak on every plate.

Jarwin = YAC that we ain't had at TE in 20 years.

Remember the 2nd rounders spent to add the 2nd TE to that vaunted offemse?

I'm gonna say it and you can call me an iduot if you want, but Jarwin gives Miles Austin effort after the catch. I love that shit. He's trying to make it down the field.

Unless Witten gonna play ST, he needs to go.

Fine. Go play for his butt buddy Garrett in New York.

I never felt like he and Garrett were that close.

The hollering he did on the sidelines seemed to indicate he was tired of Garrett's shit.

Maybe not though.

I'd rather see him play for a contender than be loyal to a dipshit like Garrett in a rebuilding year but if they're really butt buddies like you say it may be hard to quit him.

Owens and to a lesser extent called out that there was a Garrett/Romo/Witten thing going on.

I believe them.

He has always had a diva edge to him. It was probably about him not getting his way.

At this stage, he can go do whatever he wants. I just have zero desire to see him suit up again.

I also really am not all that interested in him having a position in the Dallas staff or front office either.

The Owens shit was so long ago though. Hard to complain about those offenses, but wish we'd had more than Ware and Ratliff on defense.

Agreed that Witten in Dallas in any capacity this year is a simply a progress stopper.

That’s my biggest thing. If he’s gone, he’s gone. I’m tired of the ceremonious ass kissing this team does for players who were great, but never accomplished anything. This squad needs a culture shock. With the new staff, there is some momentum in that regard (I f’n hope), we don’t need any residual bullshit from the last regime left over. If he could perform, hell yeah, he’s Jason Witten. But he can’t. So take a hike.

This is pretty much dead on how I feel about it. Your time has passed, Witt. Let it go.

he cant seem to see it either. That, and he's a progress killer for the guys who are younger, faster and simply better. So now, we have to be harsh with him. He's fucking up his legacy.

He may be useful as a backup/blocking TE but his time in Dallas needs to be up. We retooled everything around Dak and I can't help but think his legacy is always going to somehow push him for more playing time here than he deserves. I was ok with Emmitt playing for another team. I'll be ok with Witten doing the same. He will still always be remembered as a Cowboy.
