Garrett or not, McCarthy doesn't feel like a right fit yet, for me.

Not saying he isn't -- but it's just like -- No, he should be wearing green and yellow. This doesn't feel right.
 
You'll embrace him when his hair transplant fills in.
 
The "taking good players over scheme fits" thing seems to be most relevant towards DLs, especially interior linemen.

Because other than that position I don't think our first round picks have had a lot of busts because we've targeted scheme over talent. The one that comes to mind is Taco Charlton. Maybe the schlub we took in the second this past year as well.

Length at cb, zone vs man blocking o-line, size vs speed at WR, man vs zone Db, there are all kinds of "fit" excuses.
 
It only seems most relevant to the DL because that's where it was most obvious with how rigid Marinelli was, how outsized of a voice he had in the draft room, and that he fell in love with prospects for stupid ass reasons that ultimately resulted in multiple busts.

But yes, there are a multitude of preferences that a coach could have at any particular position whether it's a very specific scheme fit or prioritizing certain physical traits (burst/explosiveness and undersized DT's for Marinelli).

Yeah the secondary scheme fit was more so a problem with Jordan Lewis and drafting a safety. It was always our excuse not to draft a safety because he wasn't a big box guy for example. Lewis is a really good corner who never played because of his height

You’re still under the Garrett spell. I figured it might take some folks a while before they moved on . Just think of McCarthy as a Pittsburgh dude, a blue collar Pennsylvania guy
