Doesn't matter since we will have zero to spend anyways.
Going forward, free agency will become more and more irrelevant in terms of getting elite players.

Yep, even marginal talent is going to get franchised. It's become better to sign someone to a one year deal for 14 mil with no long term risk then to let them hit free agency.

People are going to be mad we are not going to go crazy in free agency but I think in the end its smart. I'd rather have Zach Martin back and be poised to sign our franchise RB/QB tandem in 3 years than take rentals out on Calais Campbell or break the bank for a decent safety like Jahleel Addae. Lets build in the draft like we've done in the past 5 years but this time strictly on Defense

I don't think "saving money" is the issue you make it sound. But I sort of agree that it's ok to not go crazy in free agency. Mostly because there is no one worth going crazy over. Anyone with real impact talent gets resigned or franchised. So the free agent pool consists of pretty mediocre talent for the most part anyway. The Berry's, Ingram's, JPP, Short's and Cousins never end up hitting free agency. Hell some of those guys aren't really even that great. So what you're left with are a bunch of guys not worth big money but that will garner it.
What I would sign are DBs though. Either our own or someone elses. Everyone looks to be hitting free agency except Berry in the secondary. And it is a pretty deep DB crop from what I can tell. I wouldn't be the first ones singing one of these guys but I certainly would pick up a couple of free agents. I was a big Casey Hayward guy last offseason. I'd like to sign some corners in that price range.

All is apparently forgiven between all-pro safety Eric Berry and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The sides have agreed to a six-year, $78 million contract ($40 million of it guaranteed) that will make Berry the NFL's richest safety, a person with knowledge of the situation tells USA TODAY Sports' Tom Pelissero.

Saints to release Jairus Byrd when free agency begins
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday the New Orleans Saints will release the veteran secondary man when free agency begins March 9, per a source. The 30-year-old Byrd played the last three seasons in New Orleans after playing his first five years in the league in Buffalo.
When Byrd entered free agency following the 2013 season, he was one of the most highly coveted players on the market -- including being listed as the No. 1 available on Around the NFL's top 101 free agents that offseason. He was later named the biggest free-agent flop by Around the NFL following the 2014 season. Byrd signed a six-year contract with the Saints with $28 million in guaranteed money to come to New Orleans.
Byrd never matched those expectations. His career there got off to a bad start as he suffered a torn meniscus just four games into his first season with his new team. He totaled just three interceptions the next two years in New Orleans. Byrd had nine interceptions in his rookie campaign alone.
After a particularly bad game against the Falcons last season, Saints coach Sean Payton benched Byrd prior to their Week 4 game against the Chargers. He did, however, come on a bit late in the season. He had two interceptions in the Saints' late-season win over the Buccaneers on Christmas Eve.
Despite Byrd's underwhelming stint with the Saints, he should still garner interest on the open market. There are plenty of teams that could use a veteran presence in the secondary. So long as a team isn't depending on him to be their primary force up top, Byrd could rebound next season elsewhere.

Jets inform Darrelle Revis of his impending release
The Jets have informed cornerback Darrelle Revis of his impending release, the team announced Tuesday.
The move was fully expected after Revis was arraigned on five criminal charges stemming from his alleged mid-February involvement in a physical altercation.
Coming off a nightmare season, Revis was due to count $15.3 million against the cap for an organization squarely in rebuilding mode. By cutting the 31-year-old, the Jets will save roughly $9 million in cap space.
"Darrelle Revis is one of the greatest players to ever wear a Jets uniform," Jets owner Woody Johnson said in a statement released by the team. "His combination of talent, preparation and instincts is rare and helped him become one of the most dominant players of his generation. I appreciate Darrelle's contributions to this organization and, wherever his career takes him, his home will always be here with the Jets."
There's a strong argument to be made that no cornerback ever played the position at a higher level than Revis did as the centerpiece of Rex Ryan's defense from 2009 through 2011.
That incredible 2009 season featured a career-high six interceptions and a league-best 31 passes defensed while holding a string of No. 1 receivers -- Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson, Steve Smith and Roddy White -- under 40 yards. Ryan went on to hail Revis' brilliant campaign as the best year a cornerback has ever enjoyed.
In the prime of his career, no NFL player was more competitive, more intense or more prepared than Revis. He took it as an insult if his practice opponent was not properly preparing him for each game. He was often lauded for beating receivers to their spot, running their routes as well as they did.
A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Revis also earned four first-team All Pro nods and a Super Bowl XLIX ring with the Patriots.
"Darrelle is the consummate professional," coach Todd Bowles said Tuesday, "and one of the greatest to ever play the cornerback position."
As dominant as he was in earning the "Revis Island" moniker in his prime, the future Hall of Famer's play fell off a cliff last season. Among all players targeted at least 75 times, per NFL Research, Revis' 108.0 passer rating allowed was the highest figure in the league.
Much like Peterson, Revis will be a complicated evaluation for interested teams when the new league year starts on March 9. In addition to the legal issues that could result in a suspension or an appearance on the Commissioner's Exempt list, potential suitors will have football questions.
Is Revis willing and able to transition from cornerback to safety? Does he have a realistic view of his own ability at this stage of his career? Is he still committed to football after one December report suggested that his heart is no longer in it?
As Revis and the Jets say their goodbyes, the rest of the football world is left to wonder if this is the end of the road.
