baby steps. Next comes the draft.

Yeah I'm excited for the draft. But then I'm reminded how close every success in the draft is to failure. Like the year we drafted Lamb. Awesome pick, has turned out great for us. But had he not fallen the guy we were taking was Chaisson. A massive draft bust. Same goes for Dak for example. There were other QBs we wanted in that draft. All of which busted hard. So while it was a home run there is also that part in the back of my mind that reminds me we are a stiff breeze away from drafting a draft bust almost every year. It's a thin line and half the dudes who go in the first round will be disappointments.

On the flip side, you never know how certain guys will turn out in different environments.

For all we know Chaisson would be putting up 8 sacks a year under Quinn at this point whereas in Jacksonville he's been in a slop environment with 3 HC's in his first 3 years which may have severely stunted his growth.

and while we have hit on players, we've missed on several as well. We manage to win more than we lose in the draft.

This is also true. Drafting the right player is half the battle but these guys aren't finished products either. It's one of those things that you will never know in most cases but I do often times wonder with a draft bust, if he had gone to another team would the outcome have been significantly different. It's like Patrick Mahomes going to KC under Andy Reid.

Yeah, we’ve been seriously getting lucky as shit (especially with Dak).

Um, hell no. Not even close.
This here. KC caught lightning in a bottle with Reid and Mahomes coming together at just the right moment.

Garrett wouldn’t have known what to do with Patrick and would have tried to turn him into Aikman like he did Romo.

Romo lost all respect and built a relationship with the Joneses directly and would take over running the offense by himself.

I could see the exact same thing happening with Mahomes. A QB by themselves has a much lower chance of success. They need that partnership with that clued-in coach who’ll call them out on their bullshit while still putting them in the best positions to succeed.

Um, hell no. Not even close.

I mean the Browns had the top pick that year. If they had drafted Mahomes as the best player (Which we all can agree now he is the best player from that draft) would we be talking about the Browns and multiple championships, or would we be talking about this strong arm kid bouncing around the NFL. You can never know the answer to the question but going to KC was a perfect storm.

Hell I think it applies to lots of positions and the draft. There are so many variables with a player. The type of offense or defensive scheme, the coaches, and even the position a guy plays. Reddick was a draft bust after his first 3 years in the NFL until someone realized, hey maybe this guy should be a pass rusher. What if Parsons had been drafted by a team that wanted to use him strictly as a LBer? Would he really be one of the best defensive players in the NFL right now?

He is sort of the forgotten man in the discussion about a LG but I actually liked what I've seen of him. He has developed nicely. We still need a guard/center no matter what but I think Farniok could emerge as a legit option at LG. I'm not saying he is going to be a stud, but I could see him giving you Conner McGovern/Conner Williams level play at LG.

He was ok in a few starts last year so if he's our worst case scenario at LG I'll take it.

Yeah I wonder if they will let him just focus in on playing LG. I know McGovern finally started to hit his stride when he got to stick at one spot.

I totally get why most people hate Cowboys fans.
