Just another example of the NFL not actually caring about the integrity of the game but rather the public perception of the game.

They don't care if the refereeing is biased or competent or consistent, they only care that the public doesn't view refs overly negatively, which is why they aren't made available to the press. Just like in this case they don't care about letting it play out on the field naturally, they just care about coming up with some convoluted solution that seems fair but most importantly ensures that the public doesn't view them as being callous or dismissive of the injury.

As long as Hamlin is in stable condition, which it seems like he will be somewhat soon, they should finish the game, and if not then call it a tie and just fucking deal with it based on %'s.

They're literally making these two teams play another game this weekend, you don't want to replay this one because you think it's going to hurt someone's feelings and make your dumbass league look bad?

Fine, Kansas City gets HFA.
 
Waiting until after this weekend will potentially solve the issue. KC losing this weekend would be the thing that would derail it all. Awarding both bengals/Bills a tie keeps the bengals ahead of the ravens and the bills would stay ahead of Cincy if they win this week and Cincy would win in a tie due to conference record.

I keep hearing and seeing reports that their focus has been on Hamlin and they haven't given a lot of thought yet about what to do with the games. Last I checked, NFL decision makers are not providing direct medical care to Hamlin. Hamlin's care is in the hands of medical professionals.

At this point a few reps from the NFL and the Buffalo Bills should be assigned to Hamlin's family....with the family having 24/7 access. It doesn't take the entire league office to provide assistance to Hamlin and his family.

They need to make a decision ASAP so the rest of the league can adjust to whatever decision they arrive at. We're less than 72 hours out from Week 18 kicking off.

this game seems to only impact the Bills for the potential HFA spot, in competition with KC. Is that right?

Yea if the Bills beat them the Bengals/Ravens game would determine the AFC North winner. It's unlikely the Bengals would lose that game but who knows?

They could not only be handing KC HFA but Cincinnati the division also.

The fact that this is announced like 2 hours after glowing reports come in on Hamlin shows how the league operates. The fact that they are so willing to just cast aside a game with massive playoff implications because of "bad mojo" also speaks to how the league operates.

Can you imagine if you replaced the Bengals with the Eagles and the Ravens with the Cowboys in this scenario?

Let's say the week 17 game was the 49ers/Eagles, with the Cowboys/Eagles playing in week 18, and if the 49ers beat the Eagles, week 18 is a NFC East "championship" game.

But if week 17 is cancelled the Eagles automatically win the division while the Cowboys are immediately relegated to a wild card.

It's ridiculous.

Nobody will speak out about it because they'll be publicly shamed but if the guy is on the road to recovery it's ridiculous that they'd just cancel the game because of "bad mojo" and wanting to stick to their schedule.
 
Of course this is on top of the fact that the league basically handed the Packers a playoff spot on a silver platter with their ridiculous week 18 scheduling.

But I'm sure Goodell will tell you nothing is more important than the "integrity of the game".
