Cowboys Nostalgia Thread

Since I'm here, yesterday I zipped through the 99 opener against the Skins where Troy hits the bomb to Rocket. My god, Matt Millen alone could make the game almost unwatchable. Way more twists and turns at the end of that game than I realized.

But there was something very sad about those late 90s teams. All those marquee names who were still pretty good, but so many spares from bad drafting dragging it all down into the pit of mediocrity.
Thank God I was at the game, so I didn’t have to listen to that blockhead

I have a hard time going back and watching anything after like 1993. It makes you realize how bad the Joneses were even then at maneuvering the cap and the draft.

Those 1992-1993 teams were loaded and they completely botched it all within like 2 seasons and the Deion signing was the epitome of it.

Texas Ace, right?

Someone on this board did claim that. Can't remember who it was, though.

That's not what I said.

What I always said is that he didn't have many clutch, game-clinching sacks and plays..... And I stand by that.

Amazing talent. One of the all time great Cowboys passrushers and someone who should already be in the HOF.

But you can dislike it and disagree with it, but he honestly didn't have many marquee, late game plays.

Outside of that amazing game vs the Saints, can someone tell me when he made a play that ended a game or sealed a win?

In retrospect, think of the defenses he played on. Had Parcells stuck around, we might have seen something different.

Maybe so.

There's no denying his ability and talent. The guy was THE premier defensive player in football for about 5 years, IMO.

But for whatever reason that it was, he just didn't have many game-clinching/late game marquee plays as a Cowboy.

DeMarcus Lawrence isn't half the pass rusher Ware is, but that strip sack vs the Lions to end the drive and secure a playoff victory is by a significant margin a more important singular play than any play I can ever recall Ware making.

Random factoid I just came across. Charlie Waters is tied for first for most career playoff interceptions with Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott and Bill Simpson for 9 picks.

He had an insane playoff game vs the Rams in '76 . We lost. :meh

I was thinking about this the other day. Imagine if the East suddenly became what it was in the late 1980s and early 1990s with our current regime?

We wouldn't make the playoffs or win the division.

As tough as those teams were, these recent teams would fold like a cheap suit.
