Yeah that sounds great but it's a big handicap in a league designed for parity.

Like I said. I support the theory. I would like to see if anyone has the stats regarding situational penalties (field position, down, with lead or about to change lead). Found the below resource and there are several interesting statistics. Dallas is the most penalized team this year averaging over 8 per game. Second in yardage by only 7 yards to the Raiders. The net for/against and home/away is pretty close. During Cowboys games this year there have been 240 penalties called, for and against. Next closest are Pitt(222), and KC (216).

Interesting tidbits.
Chargers, KC, and Jets get screwed at home. GB, TB,and Philthy have a distinct advantage at home.

I would say there is some evidence to support the theory that Dallas games are being heavily officiated.

I think it’s going to really help the NFL when that fuckin Goodell is gone. He has been terrible IMO for the league as far as competition and basic football goes.
I mean, look how the game has changed under his tenure. The owners DGAF, because they just want to make money. But the integrity of the game is gone, and it starts with the system of referees and replay he’s helped cultivate and trickles down to his punishments and fines and rules he’s put in place for the players. The games themselves have become sterile and you have to hold your breath every time a big play happens that’s there’s not a fucking flag on the ground. How many kickoffs have you seen where IF someone manages to bring it out of the EZ there’s not a flag out? I know all that is not 100% Goodell but his influence is very wide and deep according to everything I’ve read.
Jones and a few others had seen enough when his contract was up but there weren’t enough renegade owners left to buck the system. So he was signed back up and I think the game is even worse now than what we saw 3-4 years ago.

Teams should be able to challenge called and uncalled penalties of any kind at any time. Challenges should be issuable even with under two minutes to go-- never understood why that is even a thing.

Oh yeah, and you should actually have an objective shot at an overturn.

Penalties can be just as critical as turnovers.

A challenge gives teams a recourse when it is clear they have been jobbed and only stands to make the game better.

And it's not like they are going to go crazy with it. Teams only have three timeouts and two challenges total, so they are going to be careful as shit with it.

Quality will improve in those cases where officials just had a bad view of the play. When folks know their calls may get overturned, they will also be more judicious.

Bang-bang plays like blows to the head, defenseless WR, etc. can be slowed down and decided accurately when they clearly matter most.

Isn't it important to get it right? Games should not be decided by an official's mistake if it can be avoided.

This seems obvious to me.

Following the Saints Rams NFCC, They implemented and eliminated the pass interference challenge after one year. I think it got overturned such a piddly percentage that coaches said fuck it

Yeah, that’s why it has to be a true objective take, and not the “credit the initial call 95% of the time” BS. In that recent system refs policed themselves, so of course they made sure the rule never and ultimately ditched.

They don’t need to worry about assessing whether there were other penalties on the play either, just objectively look at the call made (or not made) as challenged. The machinery is different now than it was then,

immediate NY reviews are in place and are here long term now.

Thus is just a natural extension of NY booth reviews at this point.

Use a discerning eye, and don’t act like you are judging your best friend’s (or your own) call. Be as objective as you would be for the replays you already do.

Also it should be in place for any call or non-call. You can challenge 12men on the field, you should be able to challenge anything else

Yea, the refs seemingly had a silent agreement amongst themselves to basically never overturn any reviewed PI no matter how ridiculous it was.

That whole shit show really shined some light on how arrogant/vindictive these pricks are.
