You're being irrational, Pedersen is going to be way more in demand as an actual Super Bowl winner who was fired under questionable circumstances as opposed to Quinn who was a dead man walking for a few years.

Not to mention that the league tends to gravitate towards promising coordinators who don't have bruises yet. I'd imagine Eberflus will get a HC job before Quinn.
 
Randomly watching 1991 Giants at Cowboys and Verne Lundquist/Dan Fouts commentating. Some interesting tidbits:

Fouts says Steve DeOssie was fired from Cowboys for arguing with Dave Wannstedt. Jimmuh fired Everson Walls for fraternizing with Cardinals WR Roy Green post-game. Larry Brown chose #24 cuz he idolized Everson growing up

I believe Walls gave up the long TD to Ernie Jones and Johnson got pissed when he saw Walls post game, yukking it up.

Good thing Jimmy got out before jersey swaps.

Not once…twice to Ernie Jones in 4th quarter (38 and 74 yards). On top of Aikman getting blasted late in the fourth, then Cowboys fumbled kickoff to end the game.

Fuck. No wonder Jimmuh was pissed. Makes our sacrificial bannings tame

I remember watching the old Berman highlights with that game. Aikman got plastered. Probably the first of many severe concussions.

I was kind of pissed at Walls myself. He looked like a clown on that last TD.

It's a shame that he's under pressure to be a HC. I get it, that's the highest spot and in athletics you're expected to want to be that top dog.

Maybe I would be inclined to pursue it myself if in the same situation, but I'll never understand why great coordinators don't want to keep improving their units for a few years.

This defense, especially, is set for greatness in the next 3 - 5 years. Shocks the piss out of me to say it, but the young talent that Dallas has brought in are hungry difference makers, and they seem absolutely under the spell of Quinn's teachings. Micah is the catalyst every coach wants to have, and the DC has done a phenomenal job capitalizing on his versatility.

Career advancement is not lost on me, but do you really want that headache of dealing with a new QB? Remember the last couple years in ATL? Why do that?

You are a defensive coach.

A couple more players in the upcoming draft, and you could orchestrate a defense that will be mentioned with the all time greats...you know you have the core to make it happen.

Legend of Doomsday is waiting for you, good sir. Don't bail on architecting an all-timer defense to go work yourself into old age early trying to instill a championship atmosphere in Jacksonville.

Not to mention you could potentially change your legacy.

Quinn got to a super bowl as a HC (and should have won it) and I'd guess he feels like given another opportunity he could have a very successful tenure if it's the right circumstance.

The wild card is the Seattle situation. I could see him taking over for Carroll if he steps down.

You know Jerry would have no problem making him the highest paid DC in the league, likely higher than a lot of HCs.

The only time I can remember Jerry doing that is with Garrett, who was of course in the family portrait.

Yeah but some coaches I think love being a coordinator. Being a head coach takes up a lot of time. It's a lot of pressure and losing sucks. No coach wants to lose. You look at a guy like Fangio who took over in Denver. Did a good job and yet he will probably be out of a job this year.

I think Quinn truly loves coaching defense. You can see his excitement when he talks about his defensive players. I'm not saying he wouldn't take a head coaching job but I think he is a guy that loves the role he is in right now.
 
I think all this talk of his wanting to remain a coordinator is wishful thinking. These guys all have big egos and want the highest level (and paycheck) they can attain in their field, same as anyone else. Only reason I think they pass up a HC job is if they think the job is that bad or they could increase their market value by waiting a year, etc.

Fangio isn't getting fired after getting that team to the fringe of the playoffs with no QB.

I think most coordinators want to be head coaches. But some coordinators who become head coaches and fail I do think sometimes realize the grass isn't always greener.

Josh McDaniels for example isn't too eager to take a head coaching gig any longer.

Eh they were talking about it on NFL radio last night like it's all but a sure thing. Mostly because of management and the change over there.

To go along with Pederson and Caldwell.

I know we all love the defense right now but let's try to keep our pants on.

We'll see, even if he was I don't think they'd be a threat for Quinn, maybe Moore.

I'm just waiting for these dumbass AFC West teams to start poaching the Chiefs coaching staff one of these days.

Yeah I wasn't implying they would want Quinn. Just giving an example of a stellar defensive coordinator, did everything right and yet he could lose his job because the Broncos never found a real QB. Hell can you even blame a guy like Fangio for the offense? I mean he is a defensive guy, his input on offense probably extends about as far as picking the guy who will run it and that's about it if even that.

Quinns defenses with the Falcons sort of eroded to shit before it was said and done. Probably in large part because Quinn had to be a head coach and couldn't just be a defensive coordinator. I think Quinn is at his best doing what he is doing right now. And much like you I'm not worried by these interviews. They are basically interviewing everyone of note right now. The are going to cast a wide net and see who they like. I'd probably do the same if I owned an NFL team.
